What is your process? Skin out and boil, pressure wash, or beetles? I've been interested in this, but haven't made the leap. This years was too nice to practice on, I wanted to make sure it was done well.

I like keeping the bottom jaw as well, never saw one until this year. I cut a tooth out of mine. My buddy's wife is a DNR wildlife biologist and he wanted to know the age of the deer. I thought it was young 3.5 years and he was thinking older 4.5-5.5.
great news! congrats on the new gig. Did you have any luck this year at camp?

This is why i visit for something i want and head for the hills as soon as my business is done!

Anybody had any luck in the late season? Any flinters in here?

Last year's buck was really nice, tines about 3" taller than this guy's, and a wider spread. But I'm brave and did that all myself with the following method. I just am too cheap to spend the money when I know its something I'd have fun doing myself anyway and have all the tools I need. It came out great and I found it not hard at all, not time consuming over and above leisurely hobby time, and all said and done between the chemicals and a simple wall hanger I only spent about $20 to have a super trophy some might spend $100-200 on?

All of what I did came out of this guy's video(s). Check him out on YouTube. The channel is called Whitebone Creations.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lj7DtfsmaA

Head comes off when I hang/gut/skin the deer. Sits around till I bother to get time (This year I skinned it off this past Monday, and boiled it Wednesday, which is about 2.5wks after I bagged it. It was getting kinda stinky out in my garage even with all the flesh off the head.... braaaaaaaains). A scalpel on a handle is used to cut down the middle of the head and around the antlers and you just tug the skin and flay it off downwards around to the lower jaw from there. Then I use a turkey fryer propane stove stand and throw the largest home canning pot I've got on it and boil some water with half a scoop of OxyClean powder. Set head in (deep enough just to get to the base of the antlers. I boiled for about 20 minutes, take out, powerwash off as much meat/cartilage/gristle as I possibly can, pull and pressurewash as much brain as I can, and throw it back in the pot one more time for another 10 minutes or so and a final blasting. I want no meat/cartilage on there whatsoever. It helps that I have access to interesting surgical tools to reach up in there to the brain cavity and nasal passages, but you could just grab similar long grabby tools at Harbor Freight, I've seen adequate things there. The video gives all the nitty gritty details. Then wrap the bottom half of the antlers real good with plastic wrap and overwrapping that with electrical tape good and tight to help prevent leaching of bleach solution up into the antlers during the next stage. I grab what I think is about a 16oz bottle of ladies hair bleach peroxide from the beauty supply store, they call it "40 volume developer" and toss it into a fresh batch of water in that pot. I stick the head back in careful to keep the water just to the level of the antlers and boil another 10 minutes. Pull it, unwrap, let the skull dry a few days, apply a couple layers of Mop & Glow, then I tie the jaws back in place with clear elastic string and hang it on the wall.

Thats similar to what my buddy did last year and it turned out pretty good. I have a local guy with beetles that does it for $60. So it isn't bad for price. His come out perfect so i went with him for this years. I'm thinking next year maybe I'll acquire the few things i would need and give it a whirl. Thanks for the link.
