Good morning, fellow Pennsyltuckyvanians!!! It's a long weekend for most folks, I think, so that's always incentive for me to stay away from stores. I guess there's no mail delivery today? Planning some more brush clearing in the morning before it gets too hot and then a quiet afternoon at the pool. Stay safe and enjoy the day!!

 

Only 54 degrees and calm 20 mph winds on Mount Washington brings back memories of my Youth striving to go where it was colder

 

Welp...today is the day. I'm putting my bike on the showroom floor for sale.
I've seen way too much as far as wrecked bikes go!
It's just time after about 37 years on a bike.

Morning all. Tomorrow is my Son's 29th birthday (yes my firecracker!) , we are celebrating today. Headed north to Harrisburg, to a restaurant along the river, then to Bass Pro. If that doesn't put a smile on your face, don't know what will. Especially when we have gift cards to burn! Happy Friday and be safe everyone!

My poor rear engine lawn mower has taken a beating over the past couple years mowing both lawns so it looks like today I'll be out looking at a replacement, definitely not wanting to spend the money, but oh well. Also got my new TRD bed decals in this week so I hope to put them on today. Been driving the SLK and GTI with the clear weather so the Tacoma needs a little love today... Debating on an oil change as it's almost at 5K since the last one, I guess today's heat and how much beer is consumed will decide that

Question for all you knowledgable people in here what's the difference between HREW tubing and DOM tubing. ?

I feel like back when I use to drink. That heat and alcohol don't mix. Just my opinion though. Shit I smoke cigs and when at work and its too hot I don't even bother smoking.

 

The way that it's manufactured. I forget most of the details but the process used to make DOM creates a stronger product. Sliders should be made out of DOM.

 

I was looking at the war fab hc rear bumper and they had the option of hrew and dom. Now I don't off road as nearly as much as others. But like their design.

 

Also for 900$ to have it shipped to fastenal isn't a bad price at all. For a hc

 

Truth. Got off work yesterday at 7am and started mowing the yards at 8:30am so I had a couple afterwards working on the Benz. Before I knew it I realized my mistake when I was pretty much walking sideways back in the house after only a couple. Heat and a little bit of exhaustion didn't bode well at all.

 

HREW is flat stock formed into tube and electrically welded.

DOM is HREW that is Drawn Over Mandrel (inside and outside shaping die) to make the dimensions tighter, remove the internal seam from the weld, and increase the strength of the steel (by work hardening it). It also roughly doubles the price of the resulting tube.

I'll disagree with @HomerTaco and say Bumpers and Sliders can be HREW with no ill effects. The additional cost isn't justified in either application for by the relative strength increase. Roll Cages, on the other hand, MUST be DOM.

 

Headers are an experience, not one I wish to repeat either.

One note: the flange gasket will line up with the bolts when installed backwards. This will result in a massive exhaust leak. Also: 1/4" drive sockets with multiple swivels and extensions are required...

Pretty certain that my sliders are DOM and I know my rear CBI is DOM. Not sure about my Brute Force Fab front bumper though, I purchased that one second hand.

 

I'm sure people are using DOM for bumpers and sliders, it'll be harder to dent or bend. But I'd have a hard time charging someone that much for materials with a straight face. Your stuff was also made in the before-time, when metal prices were substantially lower.
