sounds like you guys had a great time.. too bad i was busy doing yard work, fabbing up a hitch for my mower and moving a camper to a new site at latimore valley. But hey at least I got to flex the truck out a lil bit while moving the camper up a hill and parking it half jacked on the road ;)

    Heroes on the water
The "HOW" website is http://heroesonthewater.org/home to learn more.

They are on Facebook too - there is an outing in North Jersey June 15 and another June 29 at Sandy Hook.

I know they are always looking for help and they had a great event last Saturday in Wildwood.

I just signed up to help them out so figured some like minded people in here may enjoy giving back to those who have given so much for us.

I keep getting rocks stuck in between my rotors and the backing plate which makes a horrible noise. Is there any reason I can't just remove the backing plates?

Not really but they are part of a sealed system.

remove them.. When I worked at the 4WD shop we rarely put the backing plates back on . easier to inspect pads and rotors... they are not a sealed part there are NO gaskets on either side of the backing plates. But if you are worried about that, tear the spindles apart, remove back plates, cut them down, and reinstall

I'm probably just gonna take them off. I'll hold on to them for a while in case there is a problem but I don't see what it could affect.

So you guys are saying they do not seal the outer part of the hub to the spindle?

whats that grove around the hub for?

clearly can see impression of hub

I'm not going to argue.....I just suggest putting some RTV in there if you like to keep things water/mud/sand tight if you do remove them.

I personally never had an issue inspecting any of my brakes with them on and while I have sucked up a rock or two I just reverse for 10' and they fall out. I have had much worse luck sucking rocks into the rear drums.

but I know for sure that plate is the first line of defense before the O ring IMO

    Yep.
Right on. Didn't catch the sarcasm :cookiemonster: I like the idea of throwing a bead of RTV around it too

I'll be using that idea when I rebuild the spindles here in a few weeks

This would be the best way IMO. Still retain the "seal" if you cut it down almost flush with the hub.
