Good Mornin' PA TW Folks.

 

nah it’s a western PA thing.

 

My son brought a classmate over (relocated from Pittsburg). We were making breakfast and he requested ‘dippy eggs’... that was new to us.

 

It depends on how far to the east one considers western PA. Pittsburgh is western PA to me. Most of us that were born in Pittsburgh don't live in the city proper anymore.

 

That's what everyone around here calls them too. I don't know what there really called other then dippy eggs. I'd probably look silly ordering somewhere they don't know what that is

 

I’m the same in SE Pa. When people ask me where I live, I say Philadelphia, most have never heard of West Grove

 

The big cities dominate the region. That's why they break things down by region. I haven't lived in Pittsburgh since I was a child (not counting my college days) but, when talking to people outside the area, I say I am from Pittsburgh. Certainly, from a cultural perspective, I am. Then again, both my parents and all my grandparents were born and raised there.

 

Gum Band? One of my coworkers uses that term but that is what he calls bungee cords.The first time he ask me for one. I said WHAT about 4 times till he explained what he was talking about.He was taken back when I ask strait faced “ARE YOU FUCING RETARDED”
We joke about it now.

 

It originally meant a rubber band. My grandmother used it all the time. It was colloquialisms that developed in and around Pittsburgh as far as I know. I was always embarrassed as a kid to use the words, especially when I went off to college (and met all those kids from eastern PA and Jersey, LOL), but I embrace them now - even if I don't use them. And don't forget "jagoff." I heard my dad say that a million times as a kid.

 

How many on here know what a ‘padiddle’ is?

 

Some call them 'sunny side up'.

 

After college I lived in Clearfield County. My girlfriends Mom said reddup often. Same dialect as “western pa”. So maybe it branches out further East?!
