if it were me I’d put in a hayabusa motor and call it good. These guys down the road build some crazy ones, I’ve stopped in and my wallet is always tempted

My field super buried a 6” steel pipe 10 feet in the ground as a mailbox after it got taken out so many times. He says “the next person who hits it will need a tow truck”

Now that I think about it, I think it was a 10” pipe 6 feet deep. Either way, that thing isn’t going to budge

So my Tacoma has been sitting since Sunday afternoon. My bride sees a stick hanging out from underneath today. "Hmmm", says I.
Pop the hood and there is a squirrel nest. At least two youngin's in there but no so young that they were born since Sunday.
So, either I drove around with them in there or they were re-located.
An adult bolted when I popped the hood. I left the hood open and I am hopeful that they be relocated by mom or dad.
    Any free tips from @Tatts521 ? :)
I did not see any damage but I only cleared a wee bit of the edges of the nest. I know mice eat the harness but squirrels...not sure. They did eat wires in my house once but they were trying to get out. I think.

@9mmMike Dude. Let me tell you. Took my wife's Mazda CX-9 out to the barn the other day, she put it in reverse and one of the worst mechanical grinding noises came from what sounded like the gearbox. Initially we thought it was the brakes since it had sat through a rainy/snowy day, but when she let off the brakes completely it only got worse. She hit the brakes again, threw it into drive to pull forward and got the same sound. Of course she starts freaking out, and I'm a little concerned. The Mazda only has 13k miles on it. We bought it fully loaded, top of the line trim (gotta treat the breadwinner nice, ya know?). So I talk her off the ledge, get her to throw it in reverse again and it was fine for whatever reason. Anyways, same thing was happening for about a week. Every time she let it sit in the driveway for a half-day/day there was a terrible grinding noise. Finally take it in to Mazda to make sure we don't have a lemon, and...

The tech pulled 28 black walnuts out of the engine bay

Turns out one of our local squirrels decided it was a safe enough place for their stash since my wife is working from home and only drives a few times a week. We got a video via email - I think we made the tech's day. One of them was wedged right underneath the tie rod and every time she initially moved the steering wheel a bit it was crushing a walnut.

Though the real question is what in the hell is my german shorthair doing all day? Need to whip her into a squirrel killing machine.

My dogs would also typically be on the prowl but there is a house being built across the street so my pups are restricted to the back yard to keep them from heading over to visit with the workers (or get run over).

The house I went to in margate city was beautiful on the outside. Then you see how shitty it was built.
Honestly no clue. I've only had this job for under month. Not too sure. If mom or pop squirrel doesn't retrieve them take them to your local animal shelter. So they can be rehabbed n let go.

I will check tonight. If they have not been moved, I will go to plan B. I already removed a lot of the nest around the edges to inspire them to move. And I left the hood up.

Well, they relocated. I have removed the nest and used the leaf-blower to blow some of it. Some just had to be removed by hand.
They could not have been there long. There was none of the heavy urine smell that you would expect for an older nest. No sign of chewed wires. Started OK.
I'll take another look in the morning. I checked the bus while I was out with the flashlight. :)
Pic after I uncovered the little ones.

I accidentally eviscerated a squirrel that thought my Taco engine bay was a cozy spot to hang out. What a mess.

Best critter story I have is when our old Subaru Legacy started to accelerate all by itself as I was driving to work one day. It would speed up, then slow down again, like the cruise control was going wonky or something. I put it in neutral, pulled over, opened the hood, found a groundhog sitting there on the engine, staring at me. I imagine he was hopping around in there as things got hot, and was actuating the throttle cable. Then the darn critter hid under the car, and nothing I did would get him to leave. I finally walked away far enough, sat down and waited him out. 15 minutes or so later he finally got up the nerve to make a run for it.
