Morning Pa! Tomorrow morning this time we will be headed to the sweetest place on earth for the weekend. Union convention, been canceled for the last two years. My Amanda already has her chocolate massage scheduled, she will be smiling all weekend until check out time comes Sunday morning. Then the pouting foot stomping. I don't want to leave starts....

State Employees union. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. AFSCME Council 13. This is my fourteenth consecutive year as the Treasurer of Local 2354. I must be a glutton for punishment.

 

That's great. Good benefits, good pension..... so where's the convention being held at , probably some big city.....

Nice. How's he doing ? Active , retired ? My youngest son is an apprentice. Great trade , great education they offer. Did me well.

 

This one is for Council 13, held in Hershey. The International convention is held in big cities, such as Vegas, Boston...

Union life is a good life. My Dad is a retired Teamster driver, retired @ age 58, he is now 84 with kick tail benefits. I remember the supper time conversations when my Dad would be pounding his fist on the table telling us about his day on the picket line back in the 70s. Serious shit went down not like pansy now a days. I respected my Dad for his compassion for what is right! Last contract negotiations I sat in for our local prez, I would call my Dad during lunch break during caucus, telling him what the State was proposing. He always would say don't agree to that, tell them to pound sand! Anyhow, makes me feel good to make my Dad proud of the strong union man I am, a shadow in his figure!

*rant*. As a Former teamster, what a shit show. They may have their ducks in a row for everything else. But being a firefighter and getting lumped in with them as “fire inspectors” was a headache and a half. I’ve been gone for more then a year at this point, and I’m still getting snail mail. *end rant*

*edit I’m only ranting because as I look down at my stack of Mail I brought to work to sort through their envelope is on top of the pile

Welp today was a long day. Just got home about 15mins ago. I did however get a baby racoon from my co worker and dropped him or her off at my brothers house. His wife wasn't having it but that was my cue to leave lol. But knowing my bro he will have the last say in that situation especially when it comes to animals. Cute little thing it was.

 

Kinda hard when you’re out numbered, 6 vs the rest of the Union. (Clerks and desk jockies vs ff’s)

It took months to get a sit down, and video to prove we’re firefighters. And while I have since moved on (no state or federal death or injury benefits if we died while preforming our daily roles, not something I could bear to leave my family to deal with) they are still doing the work of fire fighters, being called fire inspectors. Union hasn’t done anything to help fix it.

As for my own contribution, I don’t pay dues, don’t even work there anymore. I believed in Unions until politics took precedence.
