We have an ancient coal fired stove that does the lions share of the heating.
I don't start it until winter really sets in, generally late December, it makes too much heat and is too fussy to run in the mild weather.

It is the model 523 in the lower right of the photo, holds 100 pounds of coal. After almost 30 years of hauling pails of coal and ashes 3-4 months a year the novelty is wearing off...

The ashes are great on the sidewalk however.

We have 3 of the electric oil filled heaters, the one in the bedroom is on the 500 watt setting at 60 degrees, perfect sleeping temperature. An electric mattress pad works great too, I will never have another electric blanket.

I only buy (used) Kenmore/Whirlpool dryers, the one we are currently using is the best parts of 3, $100 total investment.

The only failure that really stops them is a fault with the motor, the plastic fan is threaded onto the motor shaft and almost impossible to get off with out destroying the fan. You can't remove the motor from the machine until you get the fan off.

The first year I was here the furnace quit, I didn't know how to fix them (yet) and paying for a service call was out of the budget. We had a small wood stove and the previous owner left a giant amount of firewood -- all good. :lalala:

    Yeah, right...

Christmas morning it was 38 degrees in the bathroom.

December 26 I bought the used coal stove.

Any Ethernet experts here? I need some advice on what cable to run.
I’ll be working from home soon and I need to run a cable 90 feet or so from my router to the bedroom that I’ll be using for a work area. Part of the run is outdoors, as I have an old house and no way to get to the room all inside. About 25 feet will be exposed to get from the basement to the eaves on our third floor. What cable should I be looking for?

Technically you want something UV resistant rated. In practice regular cat5e/6a will last outdoors for 5+ years without any real problems.

X2 I ran some inside cat 5 for temp trailers that were outside and it didn't even last a year. All the outside stuff I've seen is black.

Just woke up from my nap. When I got back from the dentist my face was numb. Figured I can sleep some of this off. Well half of my face is still numb. Doc had to jab me 4 times in the same spot. My jaw feels like Mike Tyson knocked me out. Anywho won't be doing much for the rest of the day.
