Good morning Pennsylvania. It's a cold one today. Showed up to work guess no one wants to work. Like 6 people called out today. Shop is empty

 

I saw a true underappreciated survivor at Active Auto Sales in Hatboro today; 1999 Dodge Neon with less than 62K original miles! They are obviously high if they think they're getting $7K for this damn thing, but I can't remember the last time I saw a stock one in this condition!

 

So the wife made turkey/bacon/swiss/sauerkraut panini sandwiches for dinner last night , so I was there bird dogging her and saw the price for turkey lunch meat, $12.50 a pound !! We bought a whole turkey for Thanksgiving for .99 a pound! Something wrong there . We tried slicing leftover turkey with the meat slicer last week and it just fell apart , I guess that's the advantage of the lunch meat, all the additives hold it together but dang is it expensive.

 

You should look into those restaurant stores. Sure you have one out there. We go to one in Philly and buy in bulk, slice it, cut it, divide it, whatever and use a vacuum sealer and freeze it. We do this for three families however (mom dad, us the kids) but it pays in the end. But you have to have the room. Two refrigerators and a full size freezer keeps us stocked for a long time with one visit.

We buy chicken by the case, lunch meat, cheese, not that we get much of that but you buy the entire thing and slice it.
That’s where we get the 100 or so pounds of pork butt to make our sausage each year.

 

Dang Tony , I'll send you my address and a self addressed box! Yea you can't beat buying bulk and a raw product and making your own. Besides cost it's got to be healthier.

 

Last chance if anyone wants my old 285/75R16 tires for real cheap. Still got 7000-8000 miles on them

 

We add less fat (you need some) to the sausage then you would find in the store (and god knows what else they add) salt spices and make several kinds, hot, regular and some we add sharp cheese or what we want for that year, peppers, broccli rade which is an Italian bitter broccoli or what we feel like.
No surprises, we know what’s on it. After a day of drying, we vacuumed seal four links or so to each bag. We also make soppressata, dried Italian salamia, see photo. That takes a couple months to cure.

 

It's amusing to me because almost all of the heart we sell goes to sausage makers.

For me I have no problem getting beef for cheap obviously, but for chicken there's an Amish market nearby that does boneless/skinless breast @ 1.29/lb and it gets cheaper from there.

ok Reaching out to land owners in central Pa. recently lost my deer hunting lease( sold, new owners no hunting ) to avoid hunting over hunted state land looking for a another private property partial to hunt mostly archery but can hunt rifle if land owner permits.. willing to share venison with owner and or pay a nominal lease fee... I know it's nearly impossible to find land that holds deer that's now already hunted by family... but if anyone knows of any please message me with any details...
