Good morning all! Starting inventory this week at work. I hate my job........

Job really isn't THAT bad but counting fasteners sucks.

 

Being relatively new to PA, and given yesterday's good (enough) weather, I thought I'd get out and see the sights. I went to Centralia and then over to Shamokin. I saw a bunch of UTV and dirt bikes in between; other than AOAA, are there riding trails out there? Is it public land?

 

The ‘Graffiti Highway’ was always a place for that but a company was hired to dump a few thousand yards of dirt to cover it up a few years back. People were getting seriously injured out there. I’m guessing it’s still happening…

 

At Brewer Toyota in Moon Twp., Pa... They did the diagnostic test and checked it out, stuck thermostat like I figured. Service rep tried giving me a quote of $486, I told him it's covered under the extended warranty because it's not a wearable part. It's a mechanical (factory Toyota part) of the drivetrain. Gave him the extended warranty book, he called and said " you are correct, it's covered". I told him I wouldn't have loaded it onto my car trailer and brought it all the way here if it wasn't. Hopefully this helps anyone else having the same issue. The thermostat "Is Covered" under warranty and extended warranty as long as you followed the rules and terms of the warranty.

 

Good news. But unexpected from a Toyota. So, bad batch of stats?

 

How were people getting injured? I can see why they put the dirt over the highway- probably for the same reasons the town was razed under eminent domain: to prevent it from being a tourist destination.

 

They were dirt biking and quadding. There were regular 911 calls throughout the year

 

Ah, I understand. When I pulled up, there was a group of 4-wheelers running around on it. I saw more of them between Centralia and Shamokin than I have seen in my life- it certainly seems to be a popular thing in the area.

 

I’ve always wondered if that entire town will eventually be one giant sinkhole. The coal is still burning…

I've been to Centralia like five times this year without issue. The areas where buildings have been torn down are not technically public land, but I don't think the authorities give a shit as long as dirtbikes and quads aren't ridden on the private property of the 3 or 4 people who still live there; I also think that the coal fire is dying down, because my friends and I haven't been able to find any of the fissures in the ground with smoke rising from them. I took these pictures in October 2022...

Spooky. Would make a nice Halloween background.
