Looking to have our roof replaced. I didn’t know asphalt shingles are no longer made 36”, they’re all 39” standard. If your roof has wind damage, a roof 15-20 + years old it will need completely replaced

Wow. Probably why alot of people are going to metal roofs. My roof is around 15yrs old and it looks like crap on the north side , all that black streaks from dirt or moss..

I honestly like the look of metal roofs better anyways. My house is a simple roof to do, so metal is perfect. Although my roof is only about 10 years old and is architectural shingles, so I got a bit to go.

Especially the metal roofs that have shingles shapes , or even a terracotta shape , they do look sharp.

Morning all, I got promoted to Logistics Supervisor back in August at my job but now my hours are 5:30am to 2pm. Sucks having to get up that early but it is nice being done at 2. I have to be in early when all our drivers leave in the morning to print out their bills for whoever they are delivering to that day. Just bought a new house too that will probably need a roof in the next few years. Was built in 98 and the roof is still original to the house, I may look into a metal roof if we can afford it.

I'd already started getting quotes for a new roof last summer and for once I caught a break. Hail storm came through my area and I ended up having my homeowners insurance cover the cost of putting on a new roof. Most of the houses in my development ended up with new roofs that way. Instead of around 10k I was only out my deductible so less than 2k.

same here with the black streaks. Our roof is about 23 years old, so I probably only have a few years left. I think I'll do the metal roof. That way I won't have to worry about again.

You do have to worry about the rubber on the screws rotting out, but you can replace those pretty easy. They also make larger ones in case the old ones get wallowed out.

The metal roof is definitely better but most houses these days have OSB as roof sheathing and any respectable roofer will not install metal on OSB. The screws do not hold/grab OSB like plywood. OSB has less than half the holding strength of a screw/nail as plywood of equal thickness.

True. My house was built in 1965 so it's 1x6 planks.

Those look like Black Rhino wheels if I'm not mistaken on the 2nd pic. I really like the look of those, makes the truck look like a military vehicle. Which in some 3rd world countries they technically are haha.

^^ first thing I thought of

I had my roof replaced 2, going on 3 years now. Got 31 years out of the original and I had an architectural shingle style one installed with a 40-year expected lifespan. Fingers crossed on that!
