As far as I know honeybees are the only one to swarm like that. Yellowjackets typically dont

 

We've snagged a few swarms over the years. They are looking for a place to start a hive - the queen is in there somewhere and drones are out looking for the next hive location.

Cut the branch and shake them into a hive box.

You have a gift for understatement... I would start with terrifying and go up from there.

 

That's impressive. I watched a video earlier of a guy in a lowes parking lot transferring a swarm like that to a hive box.

 

If I had the room for it. I'd be totally into keeping hive boxes. Nothing like fresh honey

 

They'll probably be gone in less than a day - once the temps come up the scouts will be out looking. You should see what it looks like when a hive swarms. I caught this one on our apiary camera - landed in a bush next to the camera so we captured it and re-hived it.

5 or 6 years.

 

I can't deal with bees without a full beekeeping suit. I know very little, but they are quite impressive...

 

Ok they are now swarming everywhere, neighbors are coming out saying what is that noise , then they see them and say holly crap.
It's hard to get a picture but wow the noise.

Seems as if they are circling around in a 50 to 75 foot radius.

 

Getting ready to leave - they will probably be gone in an hour or so.

 

Guess the queen is on the ground ? Or are they trying make a home in the ground ?
Have to admit I'm getting a little bit braver.

 

She's on the ground. Honey bees don't live underground - only wasps/hornets do that.
