    You mean, HR?

I was told someone called out the day before a Holiday (Monday) and that's an immediate punishment. (I forgot what the corrective tool is)

What wasn't cool about that...the supervisor made it go away and the individual did not get in trouble.

yikes, if that what the policy is I’d ask for it in writing, doesn’t make sense to me. Getting sick before or after a holiday is a perfectly reasonable thing, especially given a wicked hangover from most celebrations LOL. Yeah that supervisor sounds shady, something I’d do back when I was in management

Glad I’m just a working class chooch now that spends my days in the trenches with my head down and paycheck up.

    "Do more with less"

That's an expression I heard several years before I retired from Active Duty USAF in 2011.

In my current job (7 years this Sept), I've not used the "call-out" as liberally as I've seen others do...it's become common place and puts more work on those who don't call-out.

I don't even know how many call-outs ONE gets per year! lol

There's a little bit of job security in my department because clinical staff have often said to me, "I wouldn't want your job."

Material Management is tedious and requires lots of follow-up for product availability.

I'll stop there because I tend to bore with my stories. lol

that’s def big management people talk, too many chiefs not enough Indians haha.

I don’t usually call out because it doesn’t screw management over but rather my shift partners so we prearrange our sick days when all possible. Gives me about 8 weeks of paid vacation a year, and if you line it up right on shift work it gives a nice window to have off so I can’t complain. The only time I do an emergent call out is when I’m in dire straights.

doing less with more is a management ploy to gain profit margin with no real work required by the upper bosses and only put more pressure downward on employees. Thankfully those that are fortunate enough to work in a regulated industry with a CBA know that job descriptions, requirements, and limitations are specified there so none of that jargon will fly

Indeed very interesting. It has been our policy for the longest time ever since I started working for them 22 years ago. It has been explicitly stated in...you must work the before and after in full to get paid for the holiday except if one is already on a scheduled day off or on vacation. I am ok with it...already used to it. :)

I guess if it’s written and you know it going in that’s no worries. For me, I’d be calling in with an emergency vacation day

Its so the whole company doesn't call out the day after a holiday just to get another day off

The USPS still enforces similar policies. Some places still don't treat people right. I loathe toxic work environments.

Had no idea this was a policy at my job, found out the hard way when I called out the day after a scheduled holiday cause I got sick over the weekend. Come paycheck time, I'm short a bunch of money and I ask why. They don't pay you for the holiday if you call off the day before or after...o_O:notsure:

My last job was the same way. They stated that at the interview.
