Did you have recirculation on? We also deal with heat and humidity here and I can't say I've had that happen.

I had it on Max A/C, but recirculation was off...

I got ya. That will make a difference. My truck has the auto setting and automatically activates recirculation whenever the outdoor temp is above what I have my interior set to.

So, should I run it one notch above the MAX A/C setting like I used to do?

That's up to you. My understanding is Max AC and Recirculation are actually the most efficient ways to run the AC since it isn't having to work as hard to combat the heat and humidity.

Also, my truck was the cheapest one you could get for the 2010 model year and does not have the "auto" setting like yours does; 2010 was actually the very last year that A/C was an extra-cost option on the 2nd Gen, and for 2011 it became standard.

I saw a red 2005-2008 RC 5-lug 5-speed in Freeport, Maine that did not have A/C. Other than that, I have NEVER seen a 2nd Gen without it, though I have seen a few access cabs with manual windows...

Yeah, the auto setting has simply taught me a lot about the best ways to operate the HVAC system for efficiency. I don't have a "max AC" option in this truck, but our 4Runner does since it also doesn't have the auto option. Basically I figure if it's hotter outside than I want it to be inside, put on the recirculation setting. AC also helps with humidity so it works well when it is raining. But the compressor doesn't even run below certain temps so there's no point in activating it below, say, 40°F.

Have you ever seen a Taco newer than 2004 without A/C?

I actually have not. But I also haven't looked close enough to notice.

That's the one time I ever looked close enough to notice; I have a huge soft spot for older Chrysler minivans, and someone I talked to on Facebook who lived in Michigan told me that a friend owned a no-frills Dodge Caravan with a 5-speed stick and no A/C from the factory! It may have actually been a Plymouth Voyager, which is pretty much the same thing, but it literally had no options whatsoever and I believe that it was a 1993 or 1994 model.

We've never owned a vehicle without AC (not counting it not working). I was shocked to learn it was still an option on some Ford Rangers before they were discontinued in 2011.

In similar news, if you have fleet access, you can still get an F150 with crank windows!

My uncle had a 1987 Isuzu Trooper, with no A/C, that he bought in 1989 for like $3,500 and owned until 2005! Because he and my aunt live in California, rust wasn't as big of an issue as it was in either of our states. In 2005, I had just turned 16, and he told me that he would sign the title to the Trooper over to me and give me the keys if I was willing to come out to California to get it. It still ran and drove, but the 4WD no longer worked, and the big dealbreaker was that it didn't have A/C. Not including two Harleys, the last vehicle my dad owned without A/C was a 1986 Mazda B2000 that he bought in 1990 and sold in 1992. Every other vehicle we have owned has had A/C!

I get jealous any time I go out west and see the conditions of the vehicles out there, even in Colorado. 1970's pickups in better shape than 2005 pickups here despite the fact that they definitely weren't babied.

I'm a Navy brat, I was born in NorCal when my dad was stationed there, and lived there for just a few years (March 1989 when I was born, until 1990, and then 1996-1998); I would never live there for numerous reasons!

I like the natural beauty outside the cities of CA. But I definitely wouldn't want to live there either though.

The same uncle who had the 1987 Isuzu Trooper now has two Volkswagen buses and a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. He also has a 1978 Harley that I believe he bought before I was born, and my aunt drives a Tesla. The 1971 VW Bus is exempt from smog testing due to age, but the 1977 VW Westfalia is not. The previous owned swapped the original fuel-injected engine for a 1974 carbureted engine with no catalytic converters. The smog nazis won't even inspect it because the VIN says it's fuel-injected. My uncle cheats the system and registers with Texas antique tags it at his brother's house in that state. He also owned property in Texas that he inherited from his father (this is my uncle by marriage only, and his wife is my mom's older sister), and kept his 2006 Dodge Ram registered there because it is cheaper to do so. The Dodge is a diesel, and when he sold the property in Texas, he registered it in California. Until fairly recently, ALL diesel-powered vehicles were smog-exempt in California. Maybe at year (two at most) after he titled and registered the Dodge in California, the state mandated that all diesel-powered vehicles 1997 and newer had to be smog test. My uncle was PISSED! Diesel vehicles have a different procedure than gas-powered vehicles, and recently, a moron smog technician performed a gas smog test on my uncle's diesel truck. It failed, and even though my uncle got a proper smog test a short time later, he believes that his truck got a failure on its record; I hate California!

Very glad my state doesn't do inspections. That being said, you still have to maintain the vehicle as it came from the factory (within reason of course).
