Anyone here in western PA hunt small game? Im looking for some new gamelands to check out. I typically hunt the same few local gamelands or on my family's property. However, I am looking for some new places to hunt squirrels and rabbits.

The gamelands we hunt are typically up near Clarion. Over the last few years, the rabbit and squirrel populations seem to be on a decrease in that area. I remember hunting the same places 15 years ago with my old man and seeing game eveywhere.

Is this the same all over western PA? Or should we try hunting farther east or even south maybe?

Not looking for anyone's secret spot, just some suggestions on new places to check out.

Come to iup there are squirrels for days on campus...My dog makes sure to let me and everyone else know when one is near.

 

I live just outside Clarion lol We had almost no squirrels or rabbits the last 10 years or so, but that was when we had a cat. We had him put to sleep last year and now the squirrels are back (not as many as before) but we still lack rabbits.

 

Anyone know why some dude was arrested in the street by Neshaminy mall yesterday around 1pm? Saw a dude get his head stomped by a cop right next to my car. Must of done something to piss that guy off.

 

Hmm. Atleast I was not the only one who noticed this. i remember hunting around here as a kid and seeing em everywhere.

 

Bar Louie was robbed last week. They were still looking for two suspects.

 

This seemed like a heated in the moment chase. I saw many tasers ready to fire.

Next time you are out for a country drive, take a look how many birds of prey you see.

 

Anyone up for a Rausch or Whaleback meet in the middle of November?

 

Whaleback is now pay to play, from the map, looks like they put up gates. Bit I'm down for Rausch the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Im looking for a 17" wheel for a spare tire. Either a steel wheel or a Sport wheel will work. The closer to PGH the better.

Excellent point! I've seen a lot more hawks and turkey vultures the last couple years!

 

I see more turkey than I ever did as a kid.
Heck even some eagles in Berks County now.

Not much in the way of pheasant, quail, etc..
That is more from the change in farming and less hedgerows.
And pheasant aren't really native anyway.

 

Pheasants are all stocked. Even the "wild recovery areas" are stocked birds. As are most quail. There is a big flock of turkeys off papermill rd and the surrounding area.

 

Last weekend there were a half dozen ruffed grouse hens in my neighbor's pin oak, it was surprising so I looked around and spotted three hawks cruising the hollow. They must have spooked them.

As for eagles, I was at McNeil in Lancaster six or seven years ago and was startled by a bald eagle's peircing call when I got out of my truck. Looked up to see it perched on top of the building. Those big ass talons and beak were pretty intimidating.

Had a hawk swoop in and snatch a squirel right out of a tree not 15 ft from my house in Sept 2013.

With that I'd have to agree that the predators are on the rise.

 

Northern Lancaster county here. Yeah, I see tons of hawks, vultures, bald eagles even owls. Had a huge owl in the back yard just the other night. That thing was loud!
