yeah... for insurance reasons, they're not allowed to be called a church "Security" team.
so they have to bill themselves as the "Safety team".

Which, they do.
They're all trained in verbal de-escalation, CPR/FA/AED, verbal de-escalation/crisis management, and non-lethal tools as well as the firearm thing.

 

damn, what kind of religion needs guns. Maybe they should give 50% off the tithe

9-24-23 a church safety team stopped an active killer, at a church in northern VA, before he was able to actually start killing people.

what the news article fails to mention is that he was detained by church safety team members.

like it or not, houses of worship do make attractive targets.

synagogues routinely hire armed security. It’s not an unusual thing anymore. And for several of the synagogues around here, they’ve been hiring armed guards for a while (years).

I did see the kid that got busted in Virginia. I guess it makes sense but man I wish people would just carry that went to church. Imagine getting judged by the judge after coming in and hoping to get whatever these scumbags think they’re making out with. It’s ashame people can’t go out in public these days without fear.

oh. And these are regular congregants that have volunteered (hence the “safety team” moniker) to take on the responsibility and since PA doesn’t require training for carry, they’re trying to be responsible by getting trained.

Different world than when I grew up, that’s for sure.

 

Good on them for taking preaction. I know PA is pretty liberal when it comes to purchasing and carrying guns so I'm glad folks that are responsible have done some training and thought a little bit about potential outcomes.

got a lawyer coming in at the end of the month to do a seminar on legal use of force.

I’ve been working with this crew for about 6 years and we’ve weeded out a lot of the LARPers (live action role play- people who live in fantasy land) because of the training requirements.

 

Trust me, carrying in NJ I know all about reading and (damnit) keeping up with, the legal use of force requirements....good on you for keeping up with those who truly have the legal desire to defend and respect the law!

 

My church has armed security. They just don't know it.
