Keystone State Thread

I'm on the other side of the state but the last 6 months or so I really want to find a place in the mountains somewhere, away from most people, and some nice land to call my own. That's my new dream.

 

Bedford County PA

Cost of living isn't too bad and home prices aren't ridiculous. I'd recommend my county and area, but it's "up and coming" so home values and taxes are ticking their way up. My home value has increased by $30K in almost 2 years and my taxes are starting to reflect that...

 

I visited the Omni Bedford Springs and surrounding area in 2022 and loved it!! very much a nice atmosphere and could spend a lot of time there.

 

I live just north of Scranton. My sister-in-law and her husband live in the Stroudsburg area and I drive through there quite often. It's built up quite a bit with a big influx of people who commute into NY and NJ for work. Still nice but fairly congested at times.

Honestly, check out the Scranton/Wilkes Berra area. Housing prices are still fairly low, the road network gets you lots of places quickly and the quality of life is good. We retired here 20 years ago.

I have a friend that lives in Bangor just outside of Stroudsburg. I hunt there and I would definitely move from here where I live in upstate NY if I could but the wife will not

 

I grew up in Easton, just south of Bangor. There's still some nice rural areas there - but there's also a lot of creep northward from the Lehigh Valley/I76 expansion. Forks Township and Nazareth areas have been built up tremendously with warehousing and homes - most of the farmland is gone and PA33 is a feeder route for people working in the Lehigh Valley.

 

Yes . We took a ride into Nazareth for dinner one night and it’s definitely more populated than parts of the area I have been to .

Morning Pennsylvania and surrounding areas

 

I wouldn't suggest moving to New Jersey that's for sure. If I had the means I'd escape this place.

 

Kind of up in the air, depending on the track of the storm. The latest is about 3-4 inches. Not bad. We've only had a about 2 inches so far, so we're due.

 

A number of people in my parts that I know have gone to Ohio. No auto inspections or emissions for one. Supposedly taxes are lower too.

 

They keep changing it. Started out 1-3", now it's looking like more rain/freezing rain. We'll see when it gets here. I'm not overly concerned about the snow this year because I don't have to worry about clearing off my canvas harbor freight carport now that I have a metal roof carport. So nice not having to get up in the middle of the night multiple times to clear it off so it won't collapse.

 

Yeah, it does say a rain to snow mix. Just no ice please. Supposed to start Saturday night.

 

Originally my area was supposed to get 1 to 3. Now they are saying nothing. Go figure. Either way I need to go get my tires put on today.

 

I'm leaving shortly to get mine rotated. I hope the line isn't long. I'm getting right as they open to hopefully avoid this.
