I think the TPMS light can be on, but the check engine light cannot in emissions counties. I never had trouble with my 2009 that had the TPMS light on. And I actually took that one for a legit inspection.

I didn't realize that pa has different regulations for each county. That's so stupid. And people say jersey is bad. We only have emissions. Granted I haven't had a inspection on my truck in 6 years.

All kind of people in my neck of the woods use the addresses of others in Ohio. You see their car/truck in their driveway, daily and nightly for years, with that Ohio plate. It doesn't take a genius to get what they are doing. o_O

In southwestern PA only Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland and Beaver counties have to get emissions even though the latter has lost just about all industry and a good deal of population over the last 35 years while growing counties like Butler, with Cranberry, is exempt. Doesn't make sense in 2024. I wouldn't count on the PA legislature, the 2nd largest in the nation, to act for its constituents.

As far as I can tell PA doesn't have any way of enforcing inspections, so as long as you don't get pulled over...

I do get my Tacoma inspected but it's been over 10 years with another vehicle and it's never seen a PA inspection station

I used to perform state inspections as a mechanic many moons ago. Speaking for myself I am 100% okay with annual vehicle safety inspections -- brakes, suspension, steering, tires, ensuring that no exhaust fumes are leaking into the interior. That sort of inspection makes the roads a safer place for all of us.

Emissions inspections are arguable, and some of the restrictions PA puts on modification via the safety inspection system are stupid. And don't get me started on the statehouse...

If any of you have malfunctioning traffic signals, as I do on Baltimore Pike in Longwood. Contact support@rhythmtraffic.com. This is who PA uses for programming signals. I’ve contacted them numerous times and they will address the signal

They like to actually seek out expired or no inspections around here. They'll impound your vehicle real quick. Some crooked stuff goes on here...

I had my state inspection license for about 25 years starting back before emissions inspection was ever a thing. Never actually worked in the field, just wanted to have it for my own reasons, like not getting ripped off.

Biggest issue I found was less than reputable inspection stations pulling shit to rip you off. I always made sure before my vehicle went in that it should pass. No a light bulb can burn out any time, even on the way to your appointment so stuff does happen. My worst experience though was a place that's no longer in business tried telling I had absolutely no brake lights on my car. I knew they worked when I'd left to drop it off so I went over and asked to look at it myself. They're telling me they'll need to trace wiring and find the short, could be a number of things, etc. I looked up under the dash in the pedal area and saw where the wiring connector at the brake pedal was unplugged. This was one of those connectors that required pressing in on a tab to release so it didn't come off on it's own. Plugged it back in and "surprise" my brake lights worked.

I wouldn't mind safety inspections so much if they were done by a place without a financial interest in finding stuff wrong.

I know new jersey inspection station can be a pain in the ass also. When I was at the pest control company. My co worker brought his work truck in to get inspected and they failed him for a brake light. Meanwhile I went to a completely different inspection station and the guy who did the inspection said I could have failed you due to shit brakes. But let it slide. I feel like it's all up to who inspects the vehicles. Pedestrian cars are only emissions but commercial vehicles the inspect for everything. Which makes sense.

Same with my local PD, in fact they have cameras/scanners that read stickers and plates.

And thank god new jersey did away with inspection on motorcycles. But than again I've ridden so other guys bikes that have been super questionable. Had a buddy a couple years ago ask me to take his bike for a ride and tell him what I think. I rode it came back and said he should have just thrown it away. Never rode a bike that head such bad head stem movement. Bearing were gone.

@steelcity2 my local mall has plate scanners every entrance. They did that because there were so many in store thefts. And car break-ins.
