I won’t be mowing until almost May

 

Good morning all. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

 

My grass was already growing fast and pretty shaggy. We never got any extended periods of cold weather. 95% of my bulb flowers are bloomed and out

 

I didn't think trout season opened until April 6th???? Just looked at the Pa. Fish Commish regs and saw nothing different??? I know you used to be able to fish some 'special regulations' streams before the official opener, but they were "catch and release" only.

I also remember "split" season openers in the past (SE Pa started earlier -limestone streams), but didn't see that mentioned????

Man we got some heavy frost this morning. I’m still going to be working on dropping trees in the woods behind my house for future firewood. Depending on spring weather it’s possible no mowing until May ya never know .

 

Yea it's pretty frosty here as well. My burn pile is still smoking this morning. All that scrap lumber made some nice coals apparently

 

Every year around here they start the burn ban in March makes no sense to me . It runs all the way through May .

 

I usually do my first cut in mid April. Might have to go a week earlier this year as the mild winter has led to more grass than normal at this time of year.

 

No green plants/trees. Leaves and dry conditions from winter with little moisture. A little breeze and a spark goes We see a fair amount of wildfires this time of year.

 

Well aware of that. Doesn't help most of our beef gets sold overseas

 

That’s what they say , I know . But it’s really wet every spring around here

 

It really doesn't. Only about 10% of US beef is exported. A very large portion of that is offal. We send out a few containers of livers and kidneys per week for overseas. Also most of our tripe is exported through a 3rd party we sell to.

 

Heading in for my interview hopefully everything works out.

It’s wet in places here. But if you’re out of town around woods and especially mountain areas, it’s an issue. A few years ago my nephew was working for DCNR on a controlled burn. It got out of control. Jumped half a mile, burnt 700 acres.

Same here. Ground is quite wet. I just burned a bunch of boxes a few days ago.
