Franklin Co taxes aren't too bad, not as good as neighboring Fulton, but the commute to work was killer. Not to mention lack of shopping. I put 17,000 miles on my first gen in a year. Now I average 10k. I live right on the border with a larger town in Maryland so any shopping is all there. Work in MD also only about 25 minutes. But, I'm somewhat rural albeit living on a busy road.

Back in the day lol, I worked in Gaithersburg, then Germantown , but lived in Frederick. The cost of living was high. Some coworkers lived in Hagerstown and some even in PA, much cheaper but of course longer commute. Goto work where the money is.

Ironically I work in Hagerstown

Debating transferring to Charlotte, NC or middle Tennessee. Was thinking about Dallas, but taxes were outrageous so that got crossed off the list.

Back when I was down there , 87-91 Hagerstown was small , cheap, not as build up... now I think the DC loop area workers migrated out that way. It was like a secret little town. I was just talking this afternoon about a hic bar we would goto in Hagerstown that had a long shuffle board table we would play. Why ya transferring? Promotion ? Bored lol ?

I cannot tolerate the cold anymore and TN and NC is a decent compromise. Also slightly debating Olive Branch, MS which borders Memphis. They essentially pay for my move if I can get promoted to my next and final tech level. Only have a year left in this industry to make 10 years so that qualifies me for that.

My daughter lives about 1 hr. outside of Memphis. They do get some cold weather in the winter but nothing like up here. They don’t have a state tax, but everything you buy is taxed. Sometime it might snow but by the next day it is gone. Not like living in Fla. but I think it is a heck of a lot better than up here.
We drive down about every 6 weeks and it is nice leaving freezing weather here and going into 50+ temps.

Have family that moved from sunny cal to Tennessee! They joke about how cheap it is compared to California. Guess u can say they retired to Tennessee. They got big money for selling there home and bought a house with 13 or so acres. But I think jobs don't pay as much in Tennessee as they do in the north .

Well the good thing is they don't decrease my pay, so even at my current rate a couple of the places I'm thinking about I'm gonna do pretty good.

I've concluded I will always have a 4WD even if I don't need it

Tons of 4WD trucks down South. I can be one of those bro's with a 4WD truck that don't use it :anonymous:

My thing is commute time. Right now I'm only about 25 minutes. Virginia you gotta travel 81 and 81 is always a dumpster fire when I get off work. Maryland is just as cold as PA so it looks like I'm Southbound and down.

I would not be able to take the humidity in the Memphis area. I sweat today and the air was rather dry.

    Mornin' :pccoffee:

Gotta make my way into the larger town today. One of the bulbs for my vanity light blew and I no longer have any replacements. I had three that came with the house and used them all already. They no longer make the standard bulbs so I gotta buy all 8 in LED variant :annoyed: :spending:

    :pccoffee: morning, folks!

had some motivation yesterday and hiked a few miles at McConnell's Mill. A lot of cars out there, but I didn't run into too many people where I walked.
