I don't remember it being that easy. But than again. The memory part doesn't do well with me. But both my girls got their licenses today. Lol not sure how but the dmv suspended my sister's licenses cause she didn't turn her plates in but how was she supposed to do it when they repoed her car with the plates on it. But I had to make jabs at her saying aww how cute both my girls got their licenses today so exciting lol.

Car I took mine in was a manual (2005). I think the fact that I didn’t stall was enough to pass.

I took my drivers test in 1998 in a borrowed coworkers car (my car, 1969 Chevy Camaro ZL-1 COPO wasn't roadworthy just yet). I was in the process of bringing it back from the dead myself after the previous owner (another coworker who summersaulted the Camaro 4 times into a Maryland field after a farmer did a turnaround at the edge of his field and caught the quarter panel with the rear axle that stuck out just enough. I remember the test because I got the strictest Ex State Trooper/ Marine that worked out at Duncan Manor License Center. We did the walk around and got in the car. Started it up, put it in reverse, put my arm over his seat, looked back and revered out of the spot. Put it in gear and started driving around north hills, came back to the lot to do the parallel parking and other maneuvers. I drove the whole time with my left hand on the steering wheel and my right hand on the shifter. He told me that I impressed him so much that he passed me without hesitation. He asked how long I had been driving, I told him since I was 8 years old, started driving tractor-trailer. He shook my hand and we walked in to get my drivers license. He said he wished he got more confident people with actual driving experience come to take the test.

Not my car license test but my motorcycle test. This was back when you just showed up at the state police barracks and could take the test. Bike was a 1982 Kawasaki GPZ750 with a Wiseco 900 big bore kit, Yoshimura 4 into 1 header with a shortened baffle. First thing the officer did was get his billy club and stick it in the exhaust to see if it even had a baffle. Passed test on my first try. Took the MSF course a few years later.

Bought it for $750 from a coworker at Roth Carpet in 1998 when I worked there as a stock person. It sat in a driveway up on Sioux Way (an alley way behind Onieda St. across from the Duquense Incline on Mt. Washington. It had a tree fall on it back when the two tornadoes went across Grandview Ave on Mt. Washington three days before I went to pick it up with my cousins truck and trailer. I was actually walking up Sycamore street while the tornadoes were hitting trying to get to the Camaro to make sure it's alright. My (coworker/previous owner) buddy Eben had it towed back from Maryland and it sat there until I bought it. Luckily by the time I bought it he had already pulled the roof back into place, replaced the front subframe and sheet metal along with the front floor pans. He knew he has a cool Camaro but didn't know it was a Copo. Luckily when he wrecked it he swapped the 427 with a 350 sbc to daily drive it at the time so he could build up the original drivetrain. When I bought it he had a 1968 Pontiac Lemans with a built up 455, 4 speed and 12 bolt Rear-end he drove daily. When I called Luddy's Chevrolet to order some parts I gave them the vin to get parts. Within 2 weeks I had a guy from the Chevy corporation with a $25k check for the Camaro as it sat. I told him no and asked him why. He gave me paperwork and pictures of the Camaro back in 1969 sitting in the dealers side lot with the others. With it's options and setup it was only 1 of 3 known to exist. Guy in Australia owned one and the other was in a huge collection of cars.

This is the quick rattle can paint job i did when I got it roadworthy. It was originally frost green and black vinyl top. FB_IMG_1591269481677.jpg

Then again, many don't need to parallel park. Being out out here in the sticks, I can't remember the the last time I had to.

Speaking of driving tests, I did my in 1979 in a Ford Torino at the state police barracks on Washington Blvd. There was a trooper who administered the test on a track they had created which replicated city streets. Got all the to the last part and the trooper said, "ok, good. Go ahead and head back to the center." I was so happy I didn't see a stop sign they had set up at the very end of the track and drove right through it. i pulled into a parking spot only to hear the trooper say, "you didn't see that stop a few yards back?" I knew right there that I was screwed. I went back the next weekend and made sure I stopped at that last sign. And, yes, we had to parallel park and do a 3 point turn. I haven't worked with my grandson yet on parallel parking. He can't even take the test until march, at the earliest.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/Barkaloties . I took my driver's exam in my dad's 1968 BMW 1600; when I was negotiating the slalom the trooper said "shift into third", I said "are you sure?", he said "shift into third!", so I did, and his clipboard went sailing across the interior as I whipped around the cones! I was 100% certain I had failed. But he passed me. I think he just wanted to see what the car would do -- BMW was a new make in the US back then and there wern't many around. I went on later to smash that car into a tree head-on. :anonymous: We got it fixed but it was never quite the same.

When my son took his driver's exam, at the same location I took mine, I stood at the fence and watched. He did the parallel park -- trooper opened the door, closed it -- he re-did the parallel park -- door open/close -- and a third attempt ensued. I was 100% certain he had failed. But he passed.

Things are pretty nearly back to normal in our household, with the possible exception of my wife being fired out of a cannon from the steroids. I don't think there is a single closet in the house that has not been thoroughly rearranged, and the drawers are close behind! I might lobby to keep her on the stuff for a while... ;)

My recollection is a 1972. My dad bought it in 1978 or 1979.. I just know it could move. It was the only car we had, so I didn't get to drive it much, bewteen my father, mother and older brother. I asked my mom but she can't remember details. I remember once, me and some friends opened it up on the Tri-Boro Expressway sometime after midnight.
