    Stuff. Things.
    I felt that...

Tomorrow is the big day, getting turned into the 6 million dollar woman. Shoulder reconstruction for a grade 5 separation of my AC joint. Who knew coaching rugby was gonna be just as dangerous? In total, I managed to crack some ribs, bruse my right lung, dislocate the humoral head, subluxation to a grade 5 (it only goes to 6) AC joint, and fractured my scapula, with a side of bruised muscles from the back of my skull down to my bicep, and a mild concussion.

So if ya boys don't mind sending up some prayers / good thoughts tomorrow, it would be appreciated.

Wow, that's bringing back painful memories from old work injuries that almost killed me 11 years ago. Doctor said if the drum wouldve hit 1/4" to the right I'd be dead or at the least paralyzed from the head down. Shattered my humeral head, broken socket, broken scapula in multiple places, broken vertebrae, broken ribs, tore, separated almost every tendon, ligament and muscle that connects everything front and back and up onto my skull. Concussion. Not fun times. I guess I ran on adrenaline to loads to drums back up onto the trailer, drive the tractor-trailer over to the trailer swap lot just a couple miles north of the flying j at the limestoneville exit, swap trailers than drive back across 80 and down 28/66 to Pittsburgh with just my right arm overnight. I thought it had just dislocated my shoulder at the time. Was sent to the concentra in aspinwall where they only shoved the shoulder back into place causing more damage (again, didn't know at the time). Went back to work the next day and did my relay run in serious pain. No use of my left arm. Did this for two more night runs and couldn't take it anymore so I went to bed express for a second opinion, they took x-ray of my shoulder and found it shattered like an eggshell. Put me in a sling and off work for a month. Went back still in pain so they sent me to a orthopedic doctor, found out my scapula was also broken on top and healed slightly crooked from being held up in the sling. Took me out of said sling and off work for another month. Went back to work "light duty" (no driving) but the only "light duty" was sorting and cleaning/stacking steel drums, not exactly light duty. Still no use of my left arm, I could move it but I couldn't lift and hold my 4 year old son let alone a gallon of milk out of the fridge with my left arm. Any lifting, pushing, pulling at all radiated over into my left side. I ended up getting put on workman's comp for a month before my boss decided to fight it. Said I was faking it. My brother, neighbor and friends were building one of those portable carports for me to put my rock crawler in so it was out of the weather while I stood there holding the instructions, reading them to them. Their workman's comp lawyer had spies taking pictures of us and said I was "doing work". Could clearly be in the pictures that I was only hoping a paper instructions booklet but I was cut off of comp. Come to find out (a year later) my workman's comp lawyer was sleeping with theirs and they both figured they'd get paid and not do anymore work (move onto the bigger cases). Me not knowing how to handle any of this and struggling physically and mentally through this (my wife and idid most of the paperwork and work that our lawyer was supposed to be taking care of) were exhausted, especially after the lawyers said to sign a paper saying it would not receive anymore comp checks and wouldn't be charged with fraud and go to jail. Live and learn, we should've gotten another lawyer and fought it but I thought my lawyer was looking out for me. Finally just went through my insurance to cover physical therapy of almost a year to regain function and strength of my left side. What started all of this was the guys that load the trailers didn't strap the steel drums in, I had one fall out as soon as I opened the door, I was leaned over picking that up off the ground when another one from the top of the stack fell down hitting my head, neck, shoulder and back/spine.

Sorry for the indepth long story. When I say I understand your pain, I mean it. Hopefully surgery and recovery goes well for you. Stay up on the physical therapy once you're cleared to start it. If there's a therapy place with a heated pool go there. I went thru 3 months of regular pt and was in serious pain, they switched me over to the sports and medicine facility on the Southside of Pittsburgh where all the sports teams of Pittsburgh go to do heated aquatic pt to submerge my body up to my head and it was night and day difference in recovery. I was also going to my chiropractor who I've been going to since the mid '90's which helped alot as well.

Hope you recover from this sooner than later. You've got everyone's support from here.

On a side note, I'll be starting physical therapy on Tuesday for my recovery and strengthening of my core muscles after multiple Hernia surgeries.
