In a few years maybe. They're not quite ready for that yet.

That's good for me, it's halfway between work and home for me. We've gone wheeling right there too, behind Carosel Toyota.

I make it up to State College a few times per year, my lil sister goes there. Next time up, planned anyways, is Graduation weekend.

No worries, it's the property that butts up to it. It's a rediculous amount of space considering the location. I'm afraid of Toyota dealerships because I hear they like to take 'recalled' Tacoma's from thier loving owners. LOL

So I heard. As soon as they're done with Marris Grove!

There's some good spots down DE/PA boarder that we hit up, and also the Canal below the Del Mem Bridge.

Any one know how the sales tax thing works when making a private vehicle sale? I'm kinda confused about this.

The buyer pays the sales tax on the selling price when they register the vehicle.

They only pay PA sales tax if they are a PA resident. If DE, for example, no tax. If Jersey, jersey tax. They would pay the taxes at their point of registration.

If the second party is a family member, you could also 'gift' it to them. There is a nominal fee associated with it, but is sweet if you're helping out a family member... and a way around paying sales tax.

Also, make sure to have a written bill of sale, and a release of liability. They're a nice piece of mind for someone who you're just handing over a title to.

If you want to cut the person buying your vehicle a break, you can say you sold it for whatever you want. A warning though, don't go saying he paid a dollar... they have audited people, and the tax owed shows up around tax time. Most Notary/Title shops have access to 'fair market value' information, and if you sell below that they'll usually want you to state the condition of the vehicle.

I buy and sell a lot of cars & trucks in my spare time, so I have a lot of experience with this in PA. If you're having a hard time, I do have a notary up in Chalfont, PA who will help out.

Thanks for the help. I have a potential buyer that asked me to report a lower selling price to give him a break on the taxes. I understood what he meant, but didn't know if I could do it without suffering consequences further down the road. I've got no problem helping out an honest local buyer, but don't want to get in any trouble either.

Just be careful how you approach it...

If you're trying to get out of paying PA Sales tax (gifting and/or too low price) - they can and will look up the NADA value and charge you for sales tax regardless. It depends on where you go and who you're dealing with.

I've had them require me to have the car onsite so they can verify all the information (registration, VIN, etc.).

If you walk in there with a ridiculously low value and/or sale price - they might just get out NADA and look it up.
