That's a beautiful bike! This weekend is the Finger Lakes BMW Rally. I've been to that event a few times and always enjoyed it. I sold my BMW F650GS Twin to buy the Tacoma.

    Really wasn't planned
    The rain kept driving me
Stopped to check out a hotel room , heard the rain was going to be worse the next day , so kept on going
That was a tough ride , day later I could still feel the motor running in my body !

I get the whole iron butt thing but I'm a cage guy so what do I get for doing SFO to Berks County PA in 58 hours? Oh did I mention That I wanted to play in the mountains on my way out of Cali so I took the two lanes until Nevada? Or the blizzard that started just as I got to Utah, and closed the highways for 8 of those 58 hours?

It was 2000. The internet bubble had just burst. After 6 months in Cali that were supposed to be 60 days, I was sssooooooo ready to be home. I packed up the Subie (to the gills), got behind the wheel, and basically decided to drive until I dropped. Had to take a motel room in Utah because they really do just shut down the roads when it snows there, because when it snows it really. does. snow. In the morning the barriers were down so I got back on the road. I must have passed a thousand cars and trucks trundling along in the right lane as my AWD Subie ate messy left lane for breakfast. At that point I knew I would drive until I got home.

I remember cranking the backrest down and sleeping in a rest stop somewhere, and I remember placing my life in the hands of truckers who were doing 70mph through Chicagoland in what looked to me to be impenetrable fog. Next thing I knew it was daytime and I was on I-80 north of Pittsburgh. When I got back home I laid down on the floor and cried.

No it's not eating bugs on a hardtail. What is it. You tell me.

Great story man. Sounds like you had a lot on your mind. I lost a job when the dot com bubble burst. I still find the tech industry unstable and have been laid off again since then. Sometimes I just want to rent my house and go live in a yurt.

Yeah I got laid off twice since then too. Finally hooked up with a solid gig that I hope to ride out. Not too far left for me.

I did Denver to greentown pa straight with wife driving 2-3 hrs,
6 hrs before eta. I finished the last 3.
I have conditioning from work though. Staying up 24 hrs isn't a big thing for me.

    I would do it again.

I do not recommend this to anyone.

Auburn AL to north of Pittsburgh. 800 miles in my much trustier then Tacoma in 14 hours. Might have used more than 2 lanes on 19 in WV. But hey, nobody else was using them.

For some reason I have a similar story when I was driving a Volvo sedan pulling a U-haul cross country from Boston to Vegas in the early 90's. Two semi's sandwiched me and paced me ~ 70 MPH along the entire east-west I-80 stretch of PA, in the middle of a damn blizzard. After PA, I wanted to stay with them, but I had to pull off for gas. They flashed their lights and continued on. I was thankful for their help.

Coming off the exit I promptly got stuck on a giant snowdrift and spent a couple hours digging out.

I'm halfway between Erie and Pittsburg. Longest trips I've driven strait would be

Madison, Wisconsin (570 miles one way in 9 hours lettered a concession trailer and then turned around and back in 30 hours total - triple semis on both sides going around Chicago was interesting to drive between. The back trailers swerving in and out about 2 feet)

(The rest I spent a week at before returning)

Norway, Maine (720 miles in 12 hours)

Outer banks (590 miles in 9 1/2 hours)

Gibtown, Florida (1,100 miles in 18 hours went there 3 times for IISF)

For whatever reason I always get places sooner when it's just me in my truck.

Something to do with women having to stop every 2 hours to pee...

Home to Faribault Minn just a little over 16 hours

I started drinking Coffee with a straw that got some strange looks .
