I believe the kick down cable is seized in the wide open throttle position on the 98 I am working on. This truck is my daughters friends truck, her starter was out, old brittle tires replaced, were not safe, she had spare on and tire in bed was mostly fibers hanging from rim! Wasnt shifting to 2nd gear till 35mph, 3rd at 70mph! Messed around with kickdown cable and know she wont shift out of 1st gear at all. I noticed thecable had a lot of slack in it. When I rotate thethrottle to full stop the kickdown cabel is still loose. I pulled and pushed on it and know NO SHIFT AT ALL! At the transmission cable is above Park safety switch? On far end of shifter rod shaft. Behind exhaust andCat, hard to access. Took screw out of Park switch but just rotates, adjustment screw i think? How do I remove cable from tranny??? Looks like maybe there is a big nut at end of shifter shaft that if removed would allow park switch to come off? Maybe then I could see cable end at tranny? No manual please help, alreadyspent too much on someones elses vehicle, know it wont shift.

Which transmission do you have? On the vin sticker in the lower corner there will be a number. (top right as sticker is oriented) A340E or A43D

A43D, it is at the bottom of my vehicle description. That is going by the VIN tag on doorpost. Tag on tranny on side next to pan has different #s? Difficult to read?

Yes, it is the A43D, I have it in the my vehicle at the top of post. I try to minimize texting on my little phone screen, difficult for my old fingers!

Thanks, I actually had the first one already. Do U have the A22 for park switch removal? And when it says remove throttle body, I assume that is a major component between pan and top of trans casing where cable comes in? I think people do throttle body mods on vehicles but I am no tranny mechanic. Not sure what the throttle body really is?

I believe I probably have to remove the big nut on end of shifter shaft to remove the park switch?

I didnt need to pull the valve body loose, I have the cable out of all the brackets with the sheath wired to hood. Dipping skinney screwdriver in AT fluid and wicking it down inner cable. Had to use screwdriver to pry cable cam above valve body in for awhile, but she is loosening up enough that the return spring will know pull cable back in. Cable cam is two flat metal sheets so I just jently wedged tip of screwdriver between the two cam plates to pull cable in repeatedly. Again thanks so much! Olivia is a bible student who ministers to troubled youth with my daughter. May U be blessed through her ministry.

I can just imagine how many Toyota customers have had major tranny repairs because of a rusted cable.

Can't relate to the rust. I'm fortunate enough to leave were there's almost no rust issues.
