I used add an amp bc it is longer and I wanted to put the key amp under my front seat. It also comes prewired for a sub, but they’re dumb and tapped into the rear speaker for it. The rear speakers don’t get nearly as much power as the front so I ended up tapping into the front speaker wires for my hideaway sub

Aloha @destin_meeks. Thanks for all your previous help with getting me hooked up with the kicker 200.4 everything is working well and I’m getting great volume and bass. I do have a couple of questions for you if I can... I was going to start a new thread but as this is 2020 related it may help someone else out...

To preface I have a 2020 OR with the ‘base audio’ Head unit, Subaru kicker tweeters, and Kicker DS speakers front and rear being powered by Kicker 200.4 amp with a soldered taco tunes harness and direct fused power to the battery and ground to the frame behind the dash.

    1. With ‘audio off’ on the head unit (ie no source) I’m getting a fair amount of white noise through all speakers. Amp gain is on minimum. If I disconnect the amp i do still get a tiny amount of white noise, especially the tweeters (more of a slight hiss)

    2. Please see pictures below. Two connectors that go in the back of the HU have 3 black wires where the insulation appears to be trimmed too long and showing bare wire. Should I be worried? These are OEM connectors/wiring from factory.

Those are shielding wires, not carrying power or data. Typically there will be shielding on the camera, aux, and USB wires to protect from interference.

as far as the hiss goes, you said you’re still getting it from the tweeters with the amp disconnected? That’s strange

When you say you’re getting noise with the amp disconnected do you mean if you require everything as though it was factory (basically bypassing the amp)?

if so, I think that is normal because our headunits are crap. Lol. I had the same issue. Hooked up the kicker key and noticed a ton of white noise. Did all the troubleshooting I could. So I bypassed the amp and basically had everything back to factory (minus the speakers themselves). I found that the white noise is still there. Just MUCH quieter. The amp is doing what it’s meant to do, amplifying that white noise. Really sucks to be honest. With that said, I set my gains at a reasonable level and left it. I can barely notice the white noise after a couple months now

Thanks Destin. Yes, hissing is apparent when the amp disconnected, ie speaker harness directly in back of HU.

Yep, that’s what I was thinking. I too set my gains just below where I can hear the difference above the natural white noise.

TBH I can only hear the white noise if audio is switched off or the volume is set to 0.

Same here. Give it a couple weeks and you won’t even be able to notice it when volume is at zero. Unless you’re actually listening for it. It bothered the crap out of me at first and I tried all kinds of stuff to get rid of it. Finally I decided to just see if it would become less noticeable; thankfully it did.

Yep same here don’t really notice it... @DamGuide recently asked me if I too had white noise so he reminded me about it and I thought I’d ask Destin about it... is what it is it seems...

only differences I have because I set mine up with Kicker on the phone is they had me turn on compression for protection and put it at 80hz filter after I did the setup.

my white noise is the same as yours with the earlier question you asked.

If it’s hissing connected straight to the head unit, then I don’t have a clue.

If you have a multi-meter, I’m pretty sure you can separate your blue and blue/white and test them individually for voltage. In older Toyota’s, one of them stayed hot, and the other would turn on and off with the radio’s power button.
I’m not sure if they still do that, but you could always check.

Just working on the harness now. Since I have a 2020 with JBL, what do I do with the subwoofer wires on the harness? De-pin and remove it? Will I need the remote turn on wire?

I was able to de-pin both the kicker and TT harness so I did not have to solder anything, only the power and ground

I didn’t use a subwoofer. So I cut them off and taped up where I can add them back if I want.

I don't plan on using an aftermarket sub, at least not yet but I do have the stock sub so should I still cut them?

If you think you would ever sell the harness, I would cut them where you could add back the wire if someone else’s wants

Wait... you have a stock sub? Meaning you have the JBL system?
