    Has anyone tried this yet?

    https://www.kicker.com/solo-baric-l7t-8-2-ohm-truck-subwoofer-box

I'm having a love/hate relationship with an 8" Comp R in a sealed box I whipped up. Sounds great with rock and most electronic music, but bottoms out I think too easily with heavy bass. I'm giving it about 350 legit rms from a Kicker five-channel, and wondering if it's just my box being bad, leaky, or flexible, or if the Comp R is just easily overwhelmed. I'm comparing it to an 8" Alpine Type-R that I ran sealed in the back of a Forester also with about 350 rms...I feel like I could hammer that thing and it never broke a sweat.

Looking at this L7T as an alternative to fit the same space as the Comp R.... or possibly the loaded 10" Comp RT with passive radiator.

    Welcome thoughts or experiences.

So much of it comes to the box. Bigger boxes and ported boxes will nearly always hit deeper than smaller sealed boxes. Not knowing anything about the box, you said you whipped it up yourself so I’m assuming (possibly incorrectly) that it’s not necessarily to spec or built to the highest standards (none of my homemade boxes ever were)

The compR can slam in a relatively big ported box. I install lots of them.

I have the 12” compRT with passive radiator in my truck and it plays rock and stuff really well. Struggles a lot with deep low bass

I have the 10” L7R in my wife’s car in the loaded wedge box and it SLAMS compared to mine, but the box it ported and at least double the depth of mine.

The 8” L7T enclosure is thing enough to fit behind the back seat. It’s still in a sealed enclosure so keep that in mind

Yeah, my box is made out of .5" MDF from Lowes and secured with Gorilla Glue and short decking screws. Measures something like 23" long, 5" deep, and 11.5" tall... so about .5 cubes. Really low bass disappears, but stuff like kick drums sounds really good. Just wondering if something like the L7T 8" or 10" Comp RT/passive setup would handle the 350 watts better...

Try the l7q lol. I’ve never personally had a kicker sub but heard a 10 inch l7 solo baric when they first came out and was totally impressed and shocked by the output.

I do know the box can also make or break a subwoofer too

Box is a little big to fit behind the double cabs. you will probably need some spacers for the back seats. I built a custom box real quick for a 10" L3 solo, it was originally in a ported box and built a sealed so i did loose a bit of low end bass. I was still impressed with how much bass it put out but i ended up going with 2 10" sundown audio sd3's.
