FYI there is a great hands-on driving school in NC. Doug Herbert is a pro dragster and his sons were killed in a car accident. He started a course where kids get behind the wheel and learn how to brake and steer at high speed, gain control during skids, get back on the road safely after drifting off, wearing the drunk goggles for a fake impairment, etc. About half the time is powerpoint and talking, the other half hands on.

Great content and experience, takes about 3 hours, and some insurance companies offer a discount for graduates. Went today and it was fun, as even the parents get to do the slalom and braking "don't hit granny crossing the street" exercise. (The instructor commented that most students lose speed in the slalom, but I actually increased from 20 to 25. I took that as a compliment...)

Well worth the time for parents and kids alike.

Mod note - This was casually referenced in a SC chat 2+ years ago so starting clean thread.

My neighbor has two kids that went through that class. They both loved it.
