Warmed it up to about 60, shut off the heater as the bed area was warm enough and went to bed. Woke up at 330 and it was 35 inside which taught me a lesson.

Pro-tip1: the flame can be lowered down past the lowest setting to where the flame just remains lit...good down to mid 30's...fan on hi (start fan on low and then turn it up or it may stall).

Pro-tip2: Get an aux fan and mount it so that it blows the air down onto the floor near the furnace and it does wonders to help with the heat stratification.

Pro-tip3: crack a window and run the vent fan any time you spend any real time in the Kimbo - keeps the moisture reasonable...even when it's frigid (well below freezing) - the furnace can always be turned up to compensate.

    Just my $.02

Most people are heading into winter so here is a reminder to lube those locks that have been collecting water all summer, pull your batteries out until you need them (or disconnect the solar and shore power so they don't charge when below freezing), remove any tasty canned beverages you may have squirrelled away that could freeze (or put them in the fridge)...wow, that's about it huh?

Thanks, I have a fan and will try that tonight. The refrigerator vent lets in enough air that I doubt I need to crack a window.

Figured I'd share my setup. It allows you to maintain use of the ladder, which is important for us when it dumps in the Sierras (heavy snow out here). All it required was some stainless steel hardware, and drilling holes into the ski racks. we also cut and drilled a piece of aluminum stock to fit in between the gap of the forward jack mount.this can easily fit two sets of skis while also allowing use of the window.

That’s a smart move to keep access to your ladder. When I wanna clear the snow off, I channel my inner hillbilly and start doing donuts while shouting yeehaw.

Per Kimbo…all vehicles can achieve higher payload with use of E-rated tires. This allows recalculating vehicle weight ratings based on axel individual ratings that will likely be greater than the generic manufacturer's ratings listed. Better handling can also be achieved with use of airbags or active suspension kits.

    Example Weight Calculation
GVWR Gross vehicle weight rating counting the curb weight, plus the weight of your passengers, fuel, any accessories added to the vehicle, cargo, and the tongue weight of a tow trailer
GVCWR Gross vehicle curb weight with fuel and liquids topped off
GAWRF gross axel weight rating front
GAWRR gross axel weight rating rear
GATWR gross axel total weight rating

Be sure to add weight of camper, passengers (dog), gear, equipment, accessories when calculating your total anticipated payload.

    GVCWR is = 4,550, Curb Weight Rating; GVWR is = 5600; GAWR Front = 2910; GAWR Rear = 3280; GATWR = 6190 Gross Axle

    Total Payload Carrying Capacity = ((GAWRF+ GAWRR)) – GVCWR = 1,640lbs = (2910 + 3280) – 4550 = 1,640 lbs OR: Total Payload Carrying Capacity = ((GATWR – GVWR) + ((GVWR – GVCWR)) = ((6190 – 5600) + (5600 – 4550)) = 1,640lbs

Kimbo is wrong. slapping E-rated tires on your truck doesn't give you higher payload. Payload is simply the difference between your vehicle weight and your GVWR. It can be found in the door jamb of your truck. To increase your payload, you could technically make modifications and go to a vehicle modifier and have them recalculate the numbers and put a new OFFICIAL sticker on, but that's usually only done with commercial vehicles.

Now E-rated tires will make driving your vehicle around with a heavier than payload load a lot safer and more comfortable, but again, your payload hasn't changed. I'm not the payload police. I laugh at my 1500 pounds payload and slap another ton on there for good measure.

Question for those who dabble in the snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding…..

If you’re crashing in your Kimbo at your local resort, what is your go to meal for cooking inside the Kimbo and outside the Kimbo?

Im scouting some good variety other than chili and cans of stew/soup. One can only eat so much chili and soup before one tired of it.

Ok, so are you running off shore power or are you solar/gas?

Gas - BBQ on tailgate, camp stove inside (with windows cracked), pack packing stove in or outside.
Solar/battery - typically there won't be enough to really run anything substantial so gas is really the only option unless you're using an instant pot or an induction cooktop but you'll have to have an increased battery capacity.

Pre-cook options - lasagna, casserole, fajitas, spaghetti, egg/hash browns/sausage (all mixed together after cooking), and burgers/dogs

It's way easier to pre-cook and heat up once you're parked - it takes quite a bit of preplanning but we've had good luck with this type of food.
