Wanted to add that I did the math before I picked up my Kimbo too. I was like I have the room to make it work with my new C rated Duratracs. This was just a couple of weeks before we left. After a few nights of sweating the what if's, I just pulled the trigger on a new set of E rated that came in the day we were supposed to leave. I accepted that I would just eat the difference but it would be worth it in the long run. Fortunately Discount Tire took them back and I only paid $60 for install. When its all loaded up and brand new, you'll appreciate those E's and peace of mind.

Yeah - this is a great spot to explore topics, welcome!

Those are very good questions you have there - not sure on either one. I've heard that the "E" rated tires are complete overkill but I'm a bit risk averse with tires and like to know there is no way I'll even approach the limits of these tires and they perform great with the Kimbo mounted, no swaying/wallowing/weird behavior at all. As far as the suspension - I'd 'run what you brung' to see how it performs before making any sweeping changes but the airbag setup is very nice if you have any sag. Also, one thing to consider is that the compression settings probably won't help with sag at all, you may already know that though.

The C rated look good on paper, but then you go with the E rated and are like “guess I’m putting in a hot tub.” Hint hint…

Looks like Kimbo pushed back the "completed by" date to 9 months after deposit. I got an email from Jim (the new manufacturing manager) saying that my pickup date for #160 will be pushed back to early January. Hopefully it doesn't get pushed back again.

When was your original delivery date? I'm trying to gauge mine off of this news. Thx

That seems to be on par with Scout Camper now. A friend of mine went that route. Its a long wait, about what it was when I got mine. Hope it doesn't change again too.

My "completion date" was scheduled for 12/10/21....but from what Jim has told me, this is not the same as a pick up date. Apparently my Kimbo will be complete on 12/29/21 but I have to wait until "early January" to pick it up. Not sure why but they probably take a few days for quality control related things before rolling them out the door?

I'm #207 and was told a tentative date of 4/22 (emphasis mine). I have travel plans to go from FL to BOS for the marathon (I'm coach for a friend), and then start the drive across the top of the country to get my Kimbo. I'm getting the feeling I may need to at least be flexible and not pin any reservations down anywhere. Updates like yours helps with planning, so I appreciate it. If/when I hear anything different about my delivery date I will post in here to help those behind me.

    Cheers

I have #150 and was told by Jim a week ago that it would be ready 11/24 which is only 6 days off from the promise date when I ordered it in April. I havn't got a call/email yet on final payment to be wired over before pickup. Jim did say that they need a few days after completion date to do QC, testing and washing...let's see if I get any changes in the next week or so.........Will be driving up from Bend OR.....cheers

At some point they also do a pressure test inside to test all the seals.

This has been a great thread to read through! Tons of good info and ideas. I'm amazed at some of the buildouts that have been done on the Kimbos. So I'm new to the forum but have spent lots of time in the past reading through it to get ideas and knowledge for my past trucks. Currently I don't even own a Tacoma but don't hate on me. I owned nothing but Tacomas from 1995 up until 2020, three of them to be exact. A 95, 2003 and a 2013. I may go back to one again someday but right now a full size truck works better for me. Anyway the reason I've been reading over this thread is I'm real close to pulling the trigger on a Kimbo. I've looked at every video I can find on them and emailed the company with a slew of questions. After that research and with the information I've gotten from this thread the camper seems to be more than solid and exactly what we are looking for in a truck camper. And after going down the rabbit hole of truck campers I keep coming back to the Kimbo. So I guess that says something. But I think what will make or break the final decision is to actually get into one and talk to an owner. Before I make the long trek from Colorado up to Bellingham to check them out I was hoping there was an owner in Colorado that would be willing to meet up so I could check one out and pick their brain a little. I've only seen one on the street so far, down in Buena Vista just a week or so ago. But unfortunately the owner must have been out enjoying the town so I did not get the chance to talk to them. Anyway I'll keep checking out this thread for more information and if there is anyone in Colorado who would be cool with meeting up let me know. I'm up in the Leadville area.

I drove my Taco from Fort Lauderdale, FL in September, and back, 8200 miles in total, just to see the facility and talk to the staff in person. Go! You'll be glad you did.

Welcome man! We won't hold the no taco against you... :boink:

Sounds like you're doing everything we did by going down every rabbit hole. I'm more than happy to have you check ours out. I'll be loading it up soon for some holiday travel and could possibly be passing through Leadville. I'll be in Steamboat this weekend though, a bit in the opposite direction, but CB/Gunny later in Dec. Otherwise I'll be in Denver.

Dude that'd be sweet to meet up. And yes as you all know the rabbit hole can get very deep and twisty! Coming down to Denver anytime is not a problem for me. I've got lots of free time. Not sure what you are doing in Steamboat this weekend but we'll be there Saturday night all day Sunday helping the older sister move into her new place. If you've got some free time then maybe we can meet? If you got to much going on this weekend in Steamboat we'll also be down in Denver Nov 27-28. PM me if you want to work something out. Thanks for the offer and for not holding the taco thing against me!

FWIW , back in the olden days earlier this year when we got ours, we were pushed back and then moved forward so ended up in between the original date and the furthest push back date. What happened to Collin, hopefully he is still involved, had lots of energy and seemed to keep things moving.

I've been emailing Kimbo with some questions and Collin has been the one responding to me. He's been very helpful and quick to respond. Seems like he is still involved. He is listed as the Executive Director so not sure if his role has changed or not.

That's a good sign, I think he was wearing a lot of hats when we were there.

Steamboat works out great. Just there visiting a good friend, he owns the Barley. We'll probably spend the night on Rabbit Ears letting the dogs run free then roll in on Saturday through Tuesday. Ill shoot you my info.

Right choices are never bad ones. Too bad we can't always keep both in situations like this. Thanks for letting the group know. Any new members looking, I'll send the your way.
