Thanks for this. I’m sure a lot of people are considering this. Exceptional work too.

Great idea to reinforce with large plates behind the brackets.

How did you finish the aluminum to get the Kimbo scrub effect on the backing plates?

2022 Summer gathering of the kimbo??

Anyone interested in congregating somewhere to trade tall tales around the campfire?

It'll be important to have consensus on the plural of Kimbo and determine if you get better gas mileage with the shades open or closed.

I took an angle grinder with a wire wheel on it and gave it a light once over to create the look. Not perfect but close enough. One note on the backing plates, the longer plates with 3 holes in them were for the awning and the square ones with 4 holes in it were for the rotopax I have on the back.

I purchased a horse mat from a local horse supply place and cut it to the exact dimension of the bottom of the Kimbo. It's about 1/2 an inch of dense rubber. Prior to that, I had the Kimbo just sitting on the bed of the truck. The horse mat adds a little rvalue to the floor and cuts down on any rubbing caused by vibration when driving, to both the bottom of the camper and the truck bed. Works great.

Was wondering about the 4 hole ones. Didn’t know where to source the metal so went with HDPE sheets.

Kimbi, Kimbosses, a cauldron of Kimbos (used for bats)

We could experiment and see what the gas mileage is when we all draft each other.

My friend down the street, about a mile, just took delivery of her Kimbo and her new Tacoma the day before. Great timing! There are few new tweaks that were neat to see. More robust latches on the propane door, different connectors on the interior lighting were the main one. It was also interesting to see the electrical setup of a fully loaded one. The man who dropped it off, one of two in CO that trip, was one of the engineers/designer with Mark. Was great to help out and talk about general Kimbo stuff. He has one of the prototypes. Real nice and happy guy. Still helps out with Kimbo but working elsewhere.

There are at least 4 kimbi, kimb…? In Colorado that I know about. A fifth one left and now in MT.

I got a horse mat for under the Kimbo to prevent it from sliding around as much. Might consider getting one at a local farm store and trimming it up for your rig. Congrats!

Wonder if we could get Collin to make up some t-shirts?

How about a Kimbo in the middle instead of the NASA, with the outriggers...?

Made a platform out of a couple barrels and some plywood to support the Kimbo at the same height that I need it to be for loading in the truck. Mostly just for stabilization when cleaning and loading gear when it's off the truck. Working on a sun shade for it next.
Unrelated but has anyone gotten the new dual battery option? Curious as to where they place the additional battery, doesn't look like it would fit in the battery compartment without some modification.

The extra Ecoflow battery is placed directly behind the main unit.

Thanks for the info! That definitely makes the idea of a second battery more appealing since it won't really impede on the living area. They've got them for 350$ on Amazon right now

You bet! The kimbo comes with the extra battery so no need to purchase one unless you want a back up.

Mine only came with one battery since I opted out of the fridge. Was considering adding the second one eventually. Waiting until my first off grid trip to see how well the one battery and 2 solar panels work for me.

Also, remember that most of the 3rd gen Tacoma's have a 110v plug in the bed that can run while driving as an additional charging option. I just run an extension cord from the plug to the 110v input on the Kimbo, especially helpful when there is no sun (clouds or night time driving). The challenge is remembering to turn the outlet on and continue to turn back on when stopping for food/gas before getting back on the road.

It was pretty sweet! Unfortunately didn’t get to chat the owner as we just missed him moving out. It could have been perspective but it definitely seemed to sit higher in the truck than photos I have seen on here and elsewhere. easily a 6” gap between truck and cabover. Perhaps due to the flatbed setup? The side storage seemed super flush with the kimbo which made the whole thing seem almost factory like
