Well after some time of about 2 weeks driving, these coils seem very stiff. I've been doing some reading and trying to understand the basics. with my 700lb coils showing bout 1" of threads on the preload collar. If I adjust it back down to about 1/2" or so showing, I know I will loose a little ride height but will it soften up the ride? Or do I need look at getting lighter weight coils?

I rode in my buddy's truck with 700 springs, it rode smoothly. But then again he has steel bumper and complete skids with sliders.

Then again we don't know what your setup is. :notsure:

guess i can try to lower them down and see if that softens the ride any, if not, guess its onto lighter springs. I have US offroad undercover winch bumper and 9k winch, sliders, 4x4, v6. No skids yet.

Yeah you need more weight for those 700 springs with what you have so far. A full steel bumper should help it compared to the US offroad hidden winch bumper. That setup would be fine if you had 650 spring rates in 14" springs instead of the standard 13" springs. Less need to preload the springs if you had 14" springs.

I think i saw some in the classifieds, might need to go scoop them up.

So when swapping out springs, just squeeze them with a spring compressor and remove the lower bucket cup?

I think these are the correct ones.....

This ( Cylinder sleeve spinning )happened to me! The shock cylinder started to spin with the collar. I just got off the phone with King since they are down the street from me, and told them the scenario. He told me if that cylinder moves at all, it means the seal was broken and the shock 100% needs to be taken apart and re assembled to avoid damage to the shock. They are charging a very fair pr for the work, but they said they will need to keep my shocks for at LEAST a week, maybe more since they are so busy. I really hope more people read this before attempting to adjust while on the truck, this is going to suck not having my truck for a week +. If I would have known this first I would have never attempted to adjust them while on the truck.

Also.... the rep told me they don't recommend going any more than 5 full turns from stock adjustment. I am going to have them adjust the collar as far down as they are willing to because these 3rd gens barley get any lift from the Kings. I adjusted mine to show roughly 8-9 threads on each side and you can hardly tell my truck is lifted.... I am going to try to get them to adjust more than they recommend, He said the only downside to adjusting them more is that the ride will be shitty and "they wont perform like they are supposed to" . basically he was implying its pointless to spend the $$ on these shocks and then adjust them to the point where they ride like something that cost 1/4 of what kings do.

I have Icon AAL that I am waiting to install, If I put them on now it will ride like a stinkbug which I cannot stand, so really hoping they can help me get the front end higher, my rear end is completely stock height and the kings right now pretty much just level the truck out.

my 2nd gen was soo much easier... lol

What springs are you running on your kings? If you put some 700#s on them, im thinking youll get more lift without as much preload

Just for reference i have zero preload (no threads showing) on my 2nd gen 2.7L prerunner access cab with 700# springs and i got 3.5" of lift. Truck has no sway bar and rides great. Its the green one.. i know apples and oranges with gen2 vs gen3 but i think youd be a good candidate for some stiffer springs

600 for now, he said to wait until I get my plated bumper to switch, he said it will ride very stiff.

I can understand where he's coming from, but i'd run 650s at least to minimize preload. IIRC, the 600s are a 13" long spring, where as the 650s and 700s are a 14". Both the spring rate, and the longer spring will help you minimize the amount of preload you need for your desired lift. If you're already going to have them rebuild them for you, i'd just have them put 650s on unless you plan on doing a steel bumper soon in which case i'd go 700s. Like I said previously, my truck is the lightest configuration of Prerunner trucks besides the reg cab. So with my ARB bumper, id imagine I would almost be the weight of a stock 4wd w/o a bumper since they have the front diff, transfer case, and driveshaft up front. My ARB is like 120lbs since I don't have a winch in it. Just food for thought

To get my truck level, the driver side is 2 full turns down compared to the passenger side. I was able to adjust on the truck using the included rod, and an additional king T handle adjuster, lubed the threads well, raised the truck to allow full droop. It wasn't that bad to adjust but this was the 650# coils.

Good read. My Kings just came in today. I got the 700lbs springs with the extended travel shocks. Looks like 2-3 threads showing. Currently I have a full set of skids and sliders, and a supercharger (about 50lbs) installed. But I have the US Offroad hidden winch bumper and winch waiting to go on after the Kings. I'm thinking about doing just 2-3 full turns to have about 5 threads showing, before I install. I have a medium set of dakar leafs for the rear. Hoping the truck comes out level.

I was wrong, I have the 650lb ext travel coils. And my front has sagged A LOT since I installed. I am going into a suspension shop on Wednesday to have them taken off the truck and placed under a real coil compressor so they can adjust those collars down as far as I can. Its really a bummer that these 3rd gens hardly get any lift from these. I will post pics and measurements after I get them adjusted. Also getting my Add a leaf installed so really hope it doesnt ride stinkbug lol.
