They will all tarnish or rust if you don't do proper shock maintenance!!!!!

They take more user input than traditional shocks. Rebuild every couple years, more tuning and adjustments, lots of options.

Kings fit the platform better and seem to be more thought out. They have the valving and spring choice really dialed in for most applications or people who don't want to tune.

Fox has some of the best machining and quality on the planet. I have been inside (ohhhhh) all the major brands and Fox is the nicest machine quality.

Also consider people are biased to what each likes, sees and reads. From almost two decades of work with both companies I can say they are both great shocks but King had a slight advantage if your talking Tacoma OEM replacement. Custom shocks... that's another conversation hahaha.

Fox, King, Radflo, SAW are all basically the same. They need the same level on maintenance and care none of them are install and forget. Changing fluids are air charge should be done with regular intervals and if you can find a local shock tuner spend the money and have them tune it. There is nothing like a custom tuned shock vs out of the box. For springs hard to beat PAC Racing Springs.

Looks like I may be incorrect on the shock body material for the fox 2.5...it is listed as alloy on their spec sheet...I'll have to test with a magnet to confirm if it's steel alloy or aluminum alloy.

There's another thread on here about the fox shock bodies corroding. I'll have to find it.

I have the King 2.0 OEM replacement shocks on all 4 corners of my truck along with Icon UCA's and it is the best ride I could have asked for out of mid travel. However, for best results consider removing the front sway front end will float flawlessly over fairly large whoops and bumps beacuse it allows the shocks to use their full jounce and rebound to produce best flex.

I have not run Kings so I cannot compare, but I have many hard miles on the Fox 2.5. I just blew a seal about a week ago after 98,000 miles and 6 years of hard use. Half of that was at the Oregon coast, and the other half was at various other locals. The shock bodies are aluminum alloy and mine have zero corrosion. Zero corrosion on the shaft too. I'm sure that any shock you run in high salt areas with no maintenance will show some signs of corrosion, but these shocks are NOT proned to corrosion. The performance of these shocks on my truck was fantastic, both on and off road. I just bought another set. Fox now makes an adjustable version. I considered getting it, but frankly, the dampening they have dialed in is perfect. My truck has an ARB bumper. The handling was so good that I pitched the front sway bar. My old set are getting rebuilt now, and I will probably put them up for sale. I couldn't wait a month for a rebuild, so I bought new again.

Be sure to replace your bump stops too. The Wheeler Super Bumps are a great deal at $55.

I have to take turns a bit slower than before but you can totally feel the ride when you go over speed bumps, parking blocks, or rough roads. I havent taken it in the dirt yet but they ride like a Cadillac now. Hard forking out that cash, but well worth it IMO. Are you going to install yourself?

cool, i'll keep that in mind. I'm a pretty aggressive driver out in the desert and out at the dunes. And yes, the cash hurt. Like pulling a band aid. But I think it will be worth it. A buddy of mine that works at a shop is gonna help me install it. now on the hunt for some tires. Reading some reviews on the Falken MTs. :dancingbacon: They have pretty good reviews and are supposed to have very minimal road noise. At least compared to the BF Muds.
