Anybody run the the King 25001-153 shocks on the rear end, if so, what do you think?

Currently have Billstein 5100's with the ARB leaf spings, the springs are good but definitely a little too stiff

Aren't those the ones designed for 0" lift? I've seen them for sale on a lot of websites but don't really know many people running them since they don't accommodate any rear lift

I know you can special order King rear shocks for our trucks that have 0 - 3" (or more) lift but that's one reason why I just went with the Icon 2.0 rears even though I have Kings up front - didn't want to have to wait for a special order and the Icons work with up to 3" of lift

    As mentioned, special order them.

Don't pair shocks made for stock height with a lift; when you overextend or bottom out, you'll kill your shocks. Someone did that not more than a year ago here.

Did you recently buy your springs? I ask because I too run OME/ARB springs in the rear as well as Bilstein 5100s. I think it's too soft in the back, but at least they flex easily when they need to.

My understanding is that the arb kit lifts up to 2 inches?

    @ssoulssurfer

Forgot to mention, if you're going to off road, you should get yourself some extended bump stops.

yup, 2 - 3 inches depending on weight, if you have an add a leaf, etc. But that's why the King shocks won't work with those leaf springs...the leaf springs lift 2" and the King shocks are only long enough to work with stock height. If you put the King shocks on with those leaf springs they will get over extended and ruined in short order

edit - and yeah those are for 3rd gens not 1st gens. But the idea is the same, you want to pair the right length rear shocks with your rear lift. That kit you quoted comes with rear shocks that OME designed to work with those leaf springs, but if you wanted to swap out the shocks for something else you'd need to make sure you got the right ones.

You are quoting a different product for a different generation vehicle.

Please do not post advice that may confuse others.

The King rear shocks he mentioned are made as a factory upgrade/replacement at stock height.

With the OP's springs, he has a 2" lift (approximately) which is why we are advising against the use of said shocks.

Filthy motorsports website now says you can use the king shocks with deaver. They used to say with up to 1” lift blocks. If you ask king they will say stock only.

It does look like filthy put some effort into it but i havent asked about the deavers (1.5”) since they updated their packages. Probably still need limit straps

This next bit is based on experience with my own vehicle, and only to be taken lightly -

I've run both Bilstein 5100s as well as Fox 2.0

The OME springs really like to flex, and will allow full use of any upgraded shocks. In fact, you can run longer shocks with this leaf pack but that requires a shock relocation :welder:

Anyway, I found the Bilsteins to work perfectly well with a stock, or lightly loaded vehicle. You don't want too soft of a shock (even if it feels better on road) because when you're off road, you want to keep those wheels planted for traction.

    20191017_174814.jpg

I fell in love with Fox 2.0 in the rear once I found myself loaded up and carrying more than most.

    20190920_113647.jpg

Only reason why I'm running Bilsteins is because I blew a Fox shock, and since I stored away my bed rack and RTT, I've made getting my Fox shock fixed a low priority.

Hmm yeah now that you mention it I do see that some sites list those Kings as working with up to 1" lift. If King says 0" lift though then I'd be inclined to go with that...although maybe you could get away with doing it on a 1" lift with extended bump stops. Awfully expensive shocks to risk blowing out though

Personally I don't know why more 1st gen guys don't do a relocation in the rear. 1st gens go negative arch early in the travel but you can gain a good amount of droop with a larger shock.

I believe you can fit at least a 10" shock in the factory location but you have to limit up travel a fair amount to save the spring and protect the shock.

Yea I got the idea from the filthy motorsports website about that King shock. They say it's paired for the deaver j59 leaf springs which provide about 1.5" lift. Deaver's in Santa Ana and said they sell direct to the public FYI
    https://deaverspring.com/product/tacoma-2wd-4wd-6-lug-1998-2004-8-leaf-spring-1-1-2-inch-lift-rear/

You can see what the rear king shocks look like on this site (I'm still not positive if it's a piggy back or remote reservoir), scroll down to our year tacoma:http://www.kingshocks.com/products/oem/toyota-oem/

    or this: https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/king-...r-shock-absorber-25001-153/_/R-FBJG-25001-153
    - On this 4wheelparts site they say extended lenght 19.5 or 20 inches, what's stock?

Really Kwikvette, too soft? I've had mine for probably 1.5 years now, I don't really know how many miles but at least 5-8,000miles. Still with 2 dirtbikes in the back with gear, they sag but not a lot. Just comparing them to the Deaver's with no overload springs, re-thinking about it how they may tend to snap back down while offroading. Still concerned about towing and weight with the Deavers (why I went with the ARB in the first place) Now I digress onto a different topic haha
