2009 access cab trd-offroad 4x4

so I just baught the oem extended travel Kings for my 09 4x4 Tacoma and I'm still a little confused on how to adjust preload but I think i might have figured it out my questions are whether or not I can/should adjust the preload with the coilovers on the truck or not and what tool I should use to do so I've seen some people use a spanner wrench and some use a t handle but I don't no which is better!! any input would be much appreciated!!
