I run #2 click on my icons full time, off roading (30-60mph on dirt) and highway (160mph) with no sway bar.

CDCV helps a bit. I have been running it stiff (8 I think) on the street to reduce body roll and get used to the feel of what its going to be like when I pre-load some more (then will just click softer after that). The 'low speed stack' sounds like it would alleviate a lot of my gripes with the overall valving on my Icons.

Aiming to use CDCV like Lord Helmet uses the King setup, soft on the street cause I don't need to feel crap, and driving fast on the trail cause I don't want to bottom out- built some one-off sway bar quick disconnects so I can run soft on the street and not worry about my last run-in with emergency steering sway. Reading on a Raptor forum on King vs Fox vs Icon, guys were talking about adjusting stiff on the street, soft on the off road, I was like, "whaaaaat?" I want that Lexus/Caddy ride on the street, and be able to barrel down the trail with a grin that I'm not hitting the bump stops.

FOX if you drive at winter. I don't know if anyone else (King, ICON or ADS) offer better oil than FOX's JM92.

King & Fox valve them too soft unless you're only concerned about the street and washboard.
Any bumps at all and you blow through the travel.
Icon valves too stiff IMO. I didn't like them on road or off-road.

The Fox high and low speed adjusters are the most useful: http://accutuneoffroad.com/articles/how-fox-dsc-dual-speed-compression-adjusters-work/
King adjusters are functional, but they're not linear and the design is odd: http://accutuneoffroad.com/articles/how-king-compression-adjusters-work/
No data on ICON adjusters yet

They do custom valving and it sounds like you are simply describing the progressive and digressive difference with kings and fox vs icons...

Do you have any of these shocks?

You drop a truth bomb here. I went with FOX 2.5 IFP (no remotes) that came with 600#, 13" springs. They rode a little stiff at first just mostly stock, added the ARB and dual batteries and they rode well in all conditions. Decided to bump up to 650#, 14" because I was turned fairly far down to get 2" of lift and was anticipating the winch and skid plates.

Didn't want to do a re-spring twice. The ride was stiff until I added the winch and it's just OK now, but not cushy but less buckboard. I'm still not sure 650# is the right spring rate but it 'wheels well and I don't need the sway bar so I'm happy. The washboard ride is excellent, it does OK crawling but a little stiff. I think there's some valving fine tuning that could be done on my suspension, too.

Ultimately just agreeing with your point on 650# and 700# springs. Carefully consider what you're doing. I'll be adding some additional skid plate weight but I can't imagine any Tacoma getting enough stuff bolted on to justify 700# springs without being really overloaded.

While I agree Kings are built with standard valving to be soft, unless you are mobbing at 40 mph on OEM kings then the majority would be ok. If 40+ mph is what folks are going for...that is what LT apps are for which at that point people start getting bypasses. Not that bypasses supplement for any sort of valving, but def help for what you need at that level.

I looked up Kings and found some negative stuff . I've always used icons on my jeeps and now Tacoma . No problems.
I've also read a lot of great things about Kings.....
I've used Fox before , they work well. But I've read some bad about them.
I think you will will find some bad reads on all three, Icon, King , fox. There all great gear . Go with any and you will be happy.
I like Icon and Fox personally because I've never used Kings.

I was pretty set on Kings, when I go to do my lift. But I’ve been reading a lot of good things about ADS. So Its between Kings and ADS for me. I have a bit to decide, it will be a year or two before I do it.

    Workin' on it....
Specs on ADS shocks seem top notch and in some ways superior to a lot of the other brands.
