Hey all, I own a 2019 TRD Pro and I'm going to be swapping the suspension, wheels, tires soon. I've been doing some research before I'm ready to pull the trigger on these Kings Lift Kit that I'm eyeing but wanted some opinions (See below)

Kings Lift Kit Level 1 w/ Dakar Leaf Packs: https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/s...Dakar_Leaf_Packs_for_2005__Toyota_Tacoma.html

I PM'd Marie from HS but I also want other advice from others who have a similar setup. I need guidance with my choices for this lift kit. The choices below are what I picked out:

    1. Coilover Travel: Extended

    2. Coil Spring Rate: 700#

    3. Leaf Pack Choice: Medium Duty

    4. Upper Control Arms: Total Chaos Uniball

What I'm looking for is a 2.5" lift, I don't plan to add any front or rear aftermarket bumpers. I will eventually add a bakflip bed cover. I currently have an UpTop overland Bravo Rack and Rough Country Wheel to Wheel Nerf Bar Steps (I plan to remove these as well as my mudguards). Lastly I intend to get 285/75/17 tires and new wheels (still undecided on SCS or 4Runner TRD Pro)

Based on my wants and needs please elaborate which choices would be best for me. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks!

700# on that you will be oversprung. no added weight on the front and no plans, is that correct?

some disagree, it comes down to the details, like your shock tune, tires, pressures, how you drive etc all added up. but if you are looking to get your Kings to perform fully, don't overdo the spring rate. 700 is usually for bumpers, batteries, etc.

I'm no expert but going with #700 springs with little added weight will be too much...too stiff. If you go with #650 you will need little to no preload on the Kings to get 2.5 lift up front over a TRD suspension. You are 1" taller. If you are going for 2.5 over the Pro suspension its actually 3.5 over stock TRD.I have little added weight and running #600 but had to preload a bit to get just under 2.5.

This confuses me because you say I will be 3.5" over. If I am gutting the PRO Fox suspension and replacing with the Kings lift kit, wouldn't that put me at 2.5"?

Yes it will. Most of the suspensions out there go by the stock Tacoma height, not the Pro. Just wanted to make sure you knew it would not be 2.5 higher than the Pro height.

Oh yeah for sure, I don't plan on keeping any of the Pro suspension parts.

-Like everyone said above, the #700 will be too stiff, stick with the factory 14x600 spring. That will be perfect for little to no additional weight.

-The Dakar leafs packs tend to ride very stiff, even at the medium rate offered. For stock weight, you may consider looking at the Deaver J66 pack. They ride great, especially with a tuned shock! The Dakar packs also tend to lift Tacomas a little too tall, so for more of a leveled look, the Deavers work out great!

-Nothing wrong with the Total Chaos upper control arm. Some have had them squeak after a while, which can be avoided with a ball joint upper control arm. Both are plenty strong and will last a long time. You will definitely need an after market upper control arm if you plan on lifting any taller than 2".

FYI, the standard valving that come in these shocks are typically on the soft side, which is why we custom valve each shock before sending out (free with purchase). Happy to work you up an estimate if you're interested.

If you have no plans to upgrade to steel bumpers or anything else. The 600lb coils will be fine. I would get the 14” coils though. It will minimize your preload to barely any. And still give you the lift desired. What everyone else said is correct. If you just want basic full skids and rock sliders, do yourself a favor and go 650 for peace of mind. If you ever do so eventually decide to swap to full bumpers, I would recommend the 14” 700 coils at that point. Since your going 17’s you might as well go 35’s too
