KM3 Tires - BF Goodrich experiences/question

    I just went from E rated 265/75R16 duratracs (81k miles) to e rated 255/85rR16 km3’s on my truck.

    First off if mpg/power is important to you do not make the jump. I lost 2.5 - 3MPG compared to the already heavy E rated duratracs at 70MPH.

    So far the ride has been better on the KM3’s. Mainly due to having fresh tread as my duratracs were getting worn down pretty low.

    High speed curvy road driving is comparable.

    Wet driving is comparable also.

    Haven’t had any snow really so I couldn’t give you an opinion on that.

    Ive had KM3s for about 15k miles now. Love em. Worries me driving in snow (like all MT tires) so Im extra careful but haven’t had issues at all. 40psi feels to stiff I have mine @36psi

    I cold inflate to 40 because we get huge temp drops at night until it warms up. So far 40 cold the wear is even for me. I have almost 10k on my Km3’s and still love them. Haven’t rotated them yet but no cupping, or other weirdness. Still fantastic in the snow that we have had in CO Springs this winter. Occasionally throws big rocks.

    The Tacoma and 4Runner are different weights, especially in the back. This makes a difference on many things when it comes to tires. The KM3 can be quiet based on the tire pressure. The poster mentioned running at 40psi, that will soften the noise considerably.

    KO2 comes in E ratings as well. I have a set on my Dually 1-ton, so it really depends on what tire you get. This will make a difference in road noise. A C-rated KO2 tire inflated to say, 35psi is going to be hard to beat on road noise going up against an E rated mud tire.

    I love my KM3’s. Came from KO2’s. Both 305/70/16. Noise is up on the KM3’s but not unbearable. Road manners are good and they perform excellent off road. I didn’t really buy them for road manners though since I got a company truck right before I purchased. I saw no difference in fuel economy switching between the two.

    I have about 18k miles on my KM3s now. Lots of uneven wear, noise and vibration. Anybody else have issues?

    18 auto double cab
    Ive been told they need to be rotated but I've rotated them every 5k miles. Looks like I may be able to squeeze 25-30k miles max out of them which is I think normal for mud terrains(?)

    Uneven wear is almost always over/under inflation or worn parts (shocks, ball joints, rod ends, etc). Especially if you’ve rotated them every 5k.

    Try having them rebalanced, have they always had a vibration and uneven wear since they were put on?

    Vibrations didnt start until recently.. around 18k miles on the set. I have 800 more miles til next 5k for rotation and balance

    Question- I’m getting a 2.5 lift on my 2019 Tacoma and I got some new SCS wheels and I’m getting tires. I’m undecided if I want BFG K02’s or KM3’s? I’m going with 285/70R17.

    Are KM3’s a lot bigger or taller than K02’s? I won’t be off roading but I like the look of the beefier tire.

    Just looking for some advise.

    I have km3's 315/75/16 on scs wheels on my 2017 dcsb. I have about 12000 miles on them and so far so good. Ive rotated them every 5000 miles and run them at 35psi. Its my first MT tire. They've been good to me on dry pavement, wet, and snow. The only thing is they're heavy.

    Ha, good one. KM3s in particular are wide as hell. My 285 KM3s are wider than my wife’s 315 KO2s.

    I ran them for about 35,000 miles. Overall - great off road performance. On road performance (as with pretty much every MT I've ever ran) had some issues. Wet traction on pavement is not ideal. Even with rotating and balancing every 5,000 miles it's hard to keep them from chopping. Road noise is to be expected. Tire weight is to be expected. Overall, I would run them again - just not on a vehicle that spends a substantial amount of time on pavement. If I had to run an MT again - they would be on the shortlist.
