    Warning to 2nd gen owners!!

I just purchased these wheels from tire rack. Was excited to put them on the truck, along with some 265/75/16 studded tires for the winter. However, when I took them to the shop they DID NOT FIT! I got them in the 16x8, 6x139.7, 106.1 Bore, 00 offset. I have a pretty normal 4wd 6 lug truck. Now that I scroll through this thread, I only see them on 3rd gens and I can only assume they don't fit on my gen 2. I never knew there was a difference in the hubs between the second and third gen. I confirmed several times with both tire rack and KMC and they both told me that I had the correct wheels and that they should fit the tacoma.

I took the wheels to a second shop, since the first shop only told me they didn't fit over the hub because of the offset and basically pushed me out the door. I'm no expert, but that didn't make sense to me. If they don't fit over the hubs, that seems like a bore issue, not an offset one. 8" wide 0 offset wheels are not anything crazy for the Tacoma. The second shop was much better, still couldn't get them to fit but at least offered me a better explanation and helped me get to the bottom of the issue, instead of just writing me off as an idiot and saying I got the wrong wheels. On paper, these wheels should fit by all accounts. Turns out the center bore of the KM718 Summit and other KMC wheels is tapered (wider on the truck side, narrower on the outside . Seemingly they are a better fit for a hub that sits more flush with the lugs, not one that sticks out like mine.

I'm disappointed that KMC and Tire Rack both list this as a fit for the Tacoma when it isn't. I really like the look of these wheels, and I'm picky so I haven't found much else out there that I like. They look pretty sweet on all your trucks! Hopefully they will replace these. Just wanted to put this out there for others considering these wheels for a 2nd Gen.

I have had these wheels on my cement Tacoma for about 9 months. Love them, but beware of the grey tint. I really didn't want black wheels on my truck and based on some of the photos I saw on the internet and on here I bought the grey tint style. At certain angles you can see a grey tint but for the most part my wheels look black all the time lol. So if you are looking for more grey, put your eyes on them before you buy them as it looks like the tint shade varies quite a bit based on the pics I see here. Can't decide if I'm going to replace them or get them redone in a slightly lighter grey. They are defininitely not the black ones they just look black 90% of the time

I don’t understand why they don’t fit? The underbody hasn’t been changed between 2nd and 3rd Gen 4x4 models. Same axles, hubs and bolt patterns

Can anyone confirm that they will/wont fit 2nd Gen Tacoma? I just bought these but forgot to buy the lug nuts so I found this Post and read through. Was pretty happy about my decision til I seen AKACLB post and now I'm a little worried.

Did you happen to notice how far down the hub the wheel went on? Maybe a small spacer would do the trick. I'm considering the same wheels for my 2014.

I haven't. I took wheels and rim to shop to get put on and noticed then that we would need different lug nuts. Lug Nuts should be coming in this week so i'll know for sure if these rims will work on a 2014 by next week. I'll update this post as well. Praying they will work, really want these rims lol.

Happy to say the rims worked just fine on my 2nd gen 2014 Tacoma. Not sure why they wouldn’t work for the other guys. And they look absolutely sick!!

Wow! Glad they worked out. Now i can order without sweating it. Looks good. What size tires did you put on the wheels? Also, what lug nuts?

I bet a pretty small spacer would have solved it. Glad it ended up working out for you, the wheels look great!

    @PJohnson99,

Wheels look fantastic! The E/T (extended thread) lug nut is a must for most aftermarket wheel applications. Solid choice!

I just had to replace my hubs, so I was able to get a photo of them. Since I just walked into the auto parts store and got tacoma hub assemblies and they were exactly the same as the old ones, I know there wasn't anything weird going on with them. Now I'm just curious why they did not fit on my truck and have fit on others.

I don't know whether the wheel was blocked by the actual protruding part of the hub or the black cap that covers the axle bolt. Maybe the cap was what was interfering and some people have different caps?

I'm still very confused about this, the 2nd and 3rd gen hubs should be the same, did tire rack maybe send the wrong lug patern, cause toyota has been using the same 6x5.5 lug pattern since 1995, the tacoma, the 4runner and the first and 3rd gen tundra all use the same pattern

Yeah, I mean if I know one thing it's that they did not send the wrong lug pattern. I listed the specs in my original post and KMC, Tire rack, and the tire shop confirmed them.

I just wish I could be certain that something isn't odd or different about my truck. I still need wheels and I'm not sure how to make sure the next set will fit. Hubs can't swell over time can they?

I returned the wheels and thankfully Tire rack refunded them in full. However they listed the reason for return as "customer didn't like" or something like that which is annoying. Seems like they aren't taking me seriously. I reached out again and asked if they noticed any sort of defect when they inspected them upon return. I'm no expert with this stuff but I know the basics here and it is a little bit frustrating that no one seems to be able to explain what's going on.

In the end I'll probably order wheels from a different manufacturer, but I am still very curious to know what's going on here.

Definitely very weird, if they are what they say they are on the box they should fit, hopefully no one put the plastic hubcentric rings on before cause they aren't needed even though they send them

The plastic hub rings wouldn’t fit even if they tried. I tested and wasn’t anyway to be used.

looks amazing. Is your truck stock height? I'm just trying to gauge how they would look on my stock height '13 with 265/70/16s

Are yours 0 offset as well? thanks!
