I suggest changing your bolts out for some round-head carriage bolts. The carriage bolts are a bit of a pain to put in, but worth it in the end. They'll slide over rocks better and the hex head of the normal bolts will get totally chewed if you drag them over rocks and you won't be able to get a wrench on them.

    Thanks Evan!
I was thinking about that when installing the skids actually. I'll probably change out the bolts when I have some more time. Carriage bolts for the transmission skid should be too bad. The bolts where the front skid and trans skid meet are round like carriage bolts that are tightened with an Allen wrench.

Have you torn up some hex head bolts on your skids? Lol

I haven't. But I've seen plenty of people who have. ;)

It does sound like fun haha. I'd rather not be that guy that tears up their skid bolts and can't get their skids off

I'm thinking of ways to go about tcase protection

    CameraZOOM-20130520143641941_zpsb44be3c2_052fb9c33598369e06d3d75672ec4d4d2095fdd0.jpg

I'll probably have to do something custom to work with my transmission skid. I was thinking about maybe doing something like Trail Gear's transfer case mount.

    Or Skidrow's transfercase skid.

I've heard people were bending/weren't happy with skidrow's t-case skid though so I think I would use maybe 1/4" for just the t-case skid and the support of the end trans skid should keep it well supported. 1/4" maybe overkill with the support at the end of the trans skid. If you look in picture of the trans skid it is rolled back at the end for extra strength so 1/4" maybe overkill. Maybe I'm over thinking this :frusty:

How do you mount your rear license plate on the rear rock defense bumper I just ordered one and haven't figured out how to get running lights on it yet

It's ziptied on there and I got an LED license plate light from autozone and wired it into one of the old license plate lights from the factory bumper.

You can kinda see it in this pic:

Snapped some quick pics of my truck after doing a little wheeling yesterday. Nothing special. I went to a place called Maples Farm in Oxford about 15 minutes away from Miami's campus. It was basically mud, tight trails and some steep hill climbs. I didn't do anything real extreme out there so I would be stuck and stranded since I didn't have anyone to come with me. I had fun since I haven't taken my truck of pavement a whole lot recently.

Nice build, and nice job actually finding some dirt in this state

    I'm finding that extremely difficult.

Thanks :) Yeah, I found this place with a Google search for off road places near Oxford, OH lol. Yes it is difficult finding places Ohio, especially Central Ohio :( Everything is at least 2 hours away and I have no idea if they are worth the drive.

That's what I'm finding. I'm used to driving 10 minutes to some of the best wheeling in the country. My truck hasn't seen so much as a dirt road since I left my old house in NM:(.

I wish there were places to go wheeling that close to Columbus. There's also more mud here than rock crawling or sand than NM  I'd like to take a trip to one of the places within like 2 or 3 hours of Columbus that seem decent but I haven't had the time or money to do so or another 4x4 to go with me :(

Yeah I hear ya. It seems like a lot of places want groups of 5 or more too, and they charge money which is just blasphemy to me

Mounted a jerry can last night to the bed and added the plastic tub a couple of weeks ago

Today I added a voltmeter in the clock housing and added the switch that I had mounted there to the clock housing too. I put the switch to the left because I'm pretty sure I'll move another switch to the other side. I also replaced the gasket between the 2nd cat and the cat back exhaust. My exhaust is much quieter now :)

I followed Southern01Taco's how to in this thread

Great looking build! I love the ammo cans - they seem like a prefect fit between the wheel wells. What size are they? Also, do you know what year Impreza those seats came from?

I believe the ammo cans are 40mm size and the seats should be from a 2002 or 2003 Impreza WRX iirc.

I sold the truck over a year ago and picked up a 2005 Subaru Outback XT (turbo & 5MT). Didn't have much need for a truck anymore and the lack of places to off-road around me were a couple of my reasons for getting rid of it.
