I just ordered one. I was going to color fill it anyway, so they also saved me the trouble of removing the OEM lettering. I don’t do any serious off-roading, just need a little protection in the event I hit something on the highway or have an “oops” moment when driving on unimproved roads in the woods to hunt.

I think I'm gonna try out the faux skid for the same reasons. $280 on Amazon is what everyone is doing? Where is the above mentioned $130 one? How hard would it be to paint these and what paint/primer would you use?

I haven’t seen the $130 one. I sprayed mine with bed liner, stuck some color matching TRD decals from BDTRIMS on it, put anti-seize on the bolts, and installed it without too much trouble.

Start in the front and work towards the back, but screw them in just enough to hold them in place. This will give you a little bit more working room to screw in the smaller back screws which were more difficult because of the rigidity of the plate. Once the rear ones were in I tightened them down then worked my way back to the front tightening all the screws down.

A couple things to note: it did NOT come with any TRD letters and there was no TRD impression on the skid. It was flat. Also, the front and middle screws/ spacers arrive incorrectly. You will need to switch them before the install. The LONGER screw and spacer must be in the front, and shorter in the middle. The rear ones were correctly placed.

I ordered one of the Pro knock off shift knobs from Amazon. I like it a lot. Good quality and seems to be the same as the Pro, but without the TRD logo. I prefer it without the TRD and it's half the price.

Thanks for the help! Got the last coat of paint drying in the garage as we speak. I'll install in the AM. My guy won't have to remove it for oil changes will he? I'm getting one this week before we head to Colorado for Xmas.

I'm about to poke around for emblems. I was wanting a dark/matte grey. BDTRIMS look fine and are fairly priced but only offer silver or chrome.

That is Sweet! I love the blue TRD. The color of the skid and the lettering are perfect. Would you be too upset if I used this idea on my Blue Taco?

I decided to just paint it flat black. I figure a couple trips out in the desert and it won't make a difference.

Hell no I don’t mind! Isn’t that what this thread is for?
