I noticed this sound start yesterday while driving on some snow covered roads. Roads are clear today but I still hear it. I've got Bilstein 5100's with OME 885 springs and JBA UCA, and front driver side spacer for taco lean. This was all installed a little over a year ago.

When I hit small bumps I'm hearing a clunking sound. It almost feels like something is bottoming out on the front driver side. Everything feels fine at highway speeds. I looked at things when I got to work this morning and can't visually see anything that would be causing this.

Any suggestions as to what could be going on?

Do you have snow and ice packed up in the suspension?

Hmmm.... Might I need to get under the truck to check that? And would it be a visual inspection or do I need to take something apart?

you will have to get under, most times it will show up if you grap hold of the sway bar close to the link and apply rapid up and down force on it, kinda like a forceful wiggle. it may not show up when its on the ground, you might have to get both wheels off the ground

Gotcha. Thanks for the info! I'll see if I can find a way to do this after work.

If it is the sway bar, what needs fixed/replaced?

    Following.

I have a similar noise as well. 'Feel' it under my left foot when resting on the dead pedal.
No sway bar. Took that junk off a while ago.

My visual inspections are the same, OP. Just iced, slushed, and salted.

Should just be the bushings if that is what is clunking around. Not a hard fix at all.

I asked about the packed in snow and ice because I figured it was just a Tacoma thing... I have immediate access to 3 second gens (mine, sister's, and cousin's) all of which have clunking noise if they have impacted snow and ice in the wheel well or suspension area.

If it is the sway bar you will either have to replace the sway bar link that's attached to the very end of the bar or the bushings that hold the bar to the frame more towards the middle

I may need to do a better visual inside the wheel area. We're getting a warm up tomorrow which should melt everything.

It'll start a :crapstorm: for saying this:

Take off the sway bar if you wheel, man. Best decision I ever made!
I'm a 4 banger, so the 885 are so damn stiff, the truck barely rolls unless I drive like I have somewhere to be.

I get that. But, if I am ever in an accident and it's discovered that I do not have a sway bar, I'm liable for removing that safety/control piece.

It could be a loose end link, which may not be obvious just by looking at it. All you need is a 17mm to tighten it back up
Like previously mentioned, the end links or the bushings, both of which are cheap. If the bushings, I have some I can mail you. I have two sway bars chilling in my shed.

    What a guy huh? @EatSleepTacos

It's amazing this place... Post up an issue you are experiencing and you have an answer (or at least somewhere to start) before 0800 MT and someone offering up parts. Normal car forums you post up a request and you're lucky if it ever gets answered, let alone in a timely manner as car issues generally are rather stressful. Even if I were to move away from the Tacoma as my personal vehicle I am pretty sure this would still be home base as it is for many others (I see you mods)

:amen: When I sold my previous tacoma, I wasn't sure if I was going to be getting back into one, yet I still was on TW every single day. It's a great place to hang out and offer advice, among other things! I'm very happy I was able to get back into one and continue the trend.
