rear end an all undone except tow cable ties on top of frame
tank is loose
rear cab mounts un done
stepped on a nail and making a delay

 

Some progress made Saturday. Cab mounts are fun to cut off

 

I've seen what our guys go through for frame swaps at work. Trust me, you have much more fun (if one can call it that) to come.

 

Rear is swapped and fighting the rusty bolts on the front end took a lot of time this weekend

Need to order up some parts

Not yet, need to do front suspension and Diff, then can lift cab, swap engine/trans

 

Before you put the cab and bed on, spray cosmoline all over and in the boxed sections.

 

Is that the stuff that's in Woolwax?

No, I don’t believe so. Cosmoline is a waxy based rust inhibitor used by the military for surface protection.

 

Interesting that you would do all that work under the truck. I would suggest pulling the cab and getting it onto a dolly, then pulling the engine/trans and front suspension, much easier to do it from the top

 

Unless you are doing it the toyota way where you will leave the engine and trans with the cab? That will be a trick without a lift, props to you if you can engineer a way to do that! I have found that anything can be done with enough thought behind it

Ill build a gantry to lift the cab and then swap motor and trans

How many hours would you estimate so far?

 

6 days of fighting rusty bolts
Might have gone faster if i had a impact gun and more daylight

 

Front end is all un done. Just need to pop the CVs and get a helper to carry it over

Ah, just bolt a couple of pressure treated 2x6 boards on the inside.

I have a nice rack, New steering rack installed.

rear bumper support thing it a pain to get off. Going to cut the bolt end off since most turn out

 

I just saw your post. I just completed the same deal with my 2nd gen taco. It was one hell of a job to do without a lift and only two guys but boy was it fun. I’m sad it’s over! But now the truck is in perfect shape It’ll last another 40 years because the body had virtually zero rust. We also coated every part underneath as well as the underside of the cab and bed with POR15.





Now here it is! Treats me well.

Sorry I don’t have more details on the build! I just thought I’d reach out seeing as we have don’t pretty much the same build.
