Toyota has always been known for rust. Remember the early 1st gens? My 06 has faired well, the frame was replaced a couple years ago, and the bottom of the tailgate began to rust from inside out. Opened it up and foam brushed In a liberal amount of rust converter, it worked. They've also always been known for bearings and seals. I've put some money in it, but not even close to a new truck price. I would do it again. Still running strong at 265k.

This is pretty much it. There are other items that are general Tacoma things. The most serious issues were sorted out by 2007

Peoples individual accounts do not signify a trend. The wheel bearings do seem to fail at unpredictable mileages, and there does not seem to be any common thread to the failures. I suspect it is inconsistent or insufficient greasing from the factory, but that is mostly speculation. Mine went 170,000, and I use my truck hard. Lots of other people have had good luck with bearings, but the ones you hear about are the ones that fail. Nobody knows what the percentages are.

Toyota trucks come with a lot of irritations and WTFs, but their saving grace is their reliability.

+1 to what everyone else has said. I’d add the Compass/Temp display in the upper console if your Tacoma is so equipped. Sometimes they go blank and it’s one of two resistors that have bad solder.

Toyota released an updated board though many resolder the transistors that come loose. Save yourself some aggravation, just get the updated board- goes for <$100 if needed.

I'm at 113k and they haven't crapped out yet... but I might start saving so I can replace all and just be done with it

Yea, I had to replace my mounts... apparently they weren't even there (WTF). And my stock leaf springs are shit.

My wheel bearings are starting to go now at 117K. Is there any aftermarket wheel bearings that are better then the OEM or more "offroad proof" for a lack of better words.
