3.4 in the first gen was also a POS engine so that’s why they scrapped it.

Well, anyways - These back and forth comments aside (no hate here just stating that there is allot of back and forth) it’s a truck, it’s a Toyota, it ain’t refined and it isn’t luxury but it’s a good truck and I think you should go for it. If you hate it, sell it/trade it. If you buy it for a good price changes are you’ll at least get what you paid for it. That’s the worst case scenario. As you can see it can get personal real fast so just go test drive one and search your feelings. You’ll be behind the wheel, not us and they’re all different. Peace

    That's impossible!:)

According to some you should’ve had at least a coolant bypass leak, a timing chain cover leak and worn out breaks.

    That’s my point.

These “issues” are not common at all but some folks can’t seem to grasp that.

So you have a direct line to Toyota's product planning team? Or, is this just an opinion. :jerkoff:

While I agree these issues are pretty rare they're still the most "common" issues our trucks have. So it makes perfect sense for someone buying a used truck to take 5 minutes and make sure they're not present. And after that forget about them.

I haven't encountered the problem myself, but I have heard the tacouma is prone to rusty bed bolts.

My 2022 doesn't have any of those things other than the gear hunting which is fixed by an OTT tune. BTW an OTT tune improves the over all drivability of the truck - definitely the first mod to get.

OK what are the obvious flaws - things that are wrong with all 3Gen Tacos - I mean like the back seat being too tight something like that ? If that is seen as a flaw why did the person buy it - that is just an example that I could think of. I am just curious because I can't think of any obvious flaws not trying to start a flame war.

I'm at 40K and none of that stuff . . . . and I drive it hard and literally beat it to death on the trail off road.

Eight out of ten trucks come this way from the factory. Toyota engineers failed to put line up pins on the bed. You may want to take a good look at your Tacoma.

Exactly.I get it. Somebody already mentioned statistics.
Look at the number of 3rd gens sold verses the occurrence of these "common problems"
How many users here have 3rd gen??? Point being this board represents a VERY small percentage of owners.
The mechanics I know don't consider these problems major and neither should the average owner.

    Buy the 2022. Enjoy it!

That's just terrible!!! And this affects driving how exactly?
The average person probably doesn't give a crap about that.
Its a production TRUCK, not a show car.

This! Be aware of them but don't let it stop you from buying a Tacoma.
