Just measured mine same exact space on each side - and the bed of this truck has gone over some tough spots and I am sure has been flexed to it's limit.

Fortunately the dealer fixed it on Toyota's dime or I would have junked it.

Or maybe you are one of the unlucky ones - or maybe you bounced over a curb although I have done way worse on the trail. The problem is what we are both showing to prove a point is anecdotal. We are each providing a sample size of 1. Honestly that is useless. That's why I ask what are the flaws that are common to all 3gen Tacos that is supported by data. Here is a "flaw" - gear hunting. Everyone pretty much agrees that is a flaw and that the fix is a tune. There has been plenty of data and testing to support that gear hunting exists and plenty of data supporting the fix. But it is not a flaw just because one individual has had particular issues with their truck.

Eight of ten trucks coming from the Baja California, Mexico plant has this problem. It’s a well known problem with the dealers and most people just don’t care and live with it. I didn’t buy a new truck and pay good money for it to look like it “bounced over a curb”.

    Just took
    A pic of my bumper.

Left side has been ripped off when off-roading. Professionally repaired by me with 2 screws and some silicone.

    Looks good to me?

I have owned many 4X4 trucks and damaged them on the trails as others have mentioned and wouldn’t have cared how the truck came from the factory. I did not buy this particular truck to ride the trails so I do care about alignment and fitment. I didn’t post that picture to start a debate over bumpers it’s just to show what other owners should be aware of if it matters to them.

Maybe because I do own and have built show cars I notice this kind of thing more than others.

I agree, it’s obsessive. This isn’t about comparing a 1/16” of an inch to somebody’s 1/8” Let’s act like adults and not kids at a playground comparing what mom packed us for lunch.

I have a ‘22 that I bought new and now has almost 30k miles. No issues so far.

Only thing that may be “common” (and isn’t really an issue but is kind of annoying) is that with the manual transmission the truck lurches/stutters a bit at low RPM if you jam the accelerator, especially in 2nd/3rd gear. I’ve seen quite a few posts about that and have noticed it myself. But I haven’t seen posts about anything else occurring on a regular basis (except for the AT hunting gears). I think the ‘22 is likely a solid truck.

    Whole lotta' momentum
All of these trucks are extremely reliable, even more so the 2020+ (facelift years) as there were some updates, too. This goes to say that even 2016-2019 are far more reliable than any other midsize on the market from similar years, so don't let those years disturb you (problems, if any, were still EXTREMELY uncommon).

I lost some very important people to me during/because of that "scamdemic BS". Not good form on your part to discount the fact a lot of people were greatly impacted by it.

With that said, no issues with my 22OR other than dealer installed TRD lift. And that wasn't a huge deal to get fixed.

    Sorry to hear.

I apologize for that. But I will
Not discuss this issue any further for obvious reasons.

But I’m glad your truck has served you well :)

My last pick up (2007 4.0 Ranger) did the same.

So did all my other manual shitboxes.

I’m pretty sure it’s just the case being in the wrong gear at the wrong time.

OP here. Bought the Taco today. 2022 RWD V-6 4-door, tow package, SR5. Thanks for all the advice. I learned with our Rav4 not to buy an early year of a generation.
