gotta ask.. folks with kobolt toolboxes... are ya happy with them.. any issues ? does flat auto paint goes well on it?
I am going to get one.. cant find black.. Lowes got one I like,, ( not the slim design) at a good price of 260 bucks and get it painted black. Or go with a sightly better UWS brand for 400 bucks already in black.

I like mine. Its a solid little truck box. I have the slim line one. After reading on this board about Plastidip though it makes me wonder if that wouldnt be the easier/cheaper way to color it, if thats what you want to do

could probably put some rubber shelf liner or something under the box on the sides where it sits.

i have the 1500 series kobalt slimline and i love it, yes the locking mechanism could be better but since i don't have a ton of stuff in it, its good for me for the price. i used the grip rites to mount it, and i just used one set, it hasn't moved an inch and its great. you get what you pay for and for the money, its a pretty good box, at the lowes here in town, they actually had one like mine in black, but im partial to chrome, so i got the chrome one... will post pics later

Lowes Slimline Tool box, OEM Bug shield.
This is exactly how I did mine, IMO no need to purchase the expensive Grip type mounting when the truck comes with free OEM mounting hardware.

The only difference between your install and mine, are I used wingnuts to hold the bolts in from the top, this way if I needed to remove the box to haul something out in the field, I could do so in about 1 minute flat.

**Eventually I would like to replace the "Kobalt" logo in the center with something, anyone got any ideas on what would fit or cover that with? On my '13 Ford FX4, I bought a "Ford" tailgate emblem on Ebay, and stuck it there, fit the space perfectly. Everyone thought the box was OEM, lol. Was kind of looking for a similar theme with my Tacoma, but there are no Toyota logos that really fit or cover this area.

Here is a pic of the same Lowes "Kobalt" box I had on my 2011 F-150 XLT, then moved the box to my '13 FX4 later. In the pic you will see where I removed the ugly "Kobalt" and replaced with an OEM Ford oval.
