KOH 2023

Sooo clapped out after the long weekend..We had a great time out there.
KOH is something else. I'll do a write up in next couple days. A few photos and videos from the gram.

That was a rad trip for sure, I can't wait for the next one! I'll figure out a way to make one the next couple dates work. I am downloading the photos now, I'll text you a link soon. Anyone who didnt go missed out big time.

Stuck at home but didn't miss anything on youtube. My highlights from the 4400 race. 1) Dave Coles "holly fuckballs" slip on the air, 2) Raul's son Darian hiding in the rocks waiting to help winch his dad (Scharrer went thru and Darian was nowhere to be found at that time), 3) the sprint thru Turkey claw on the last lap with 1st and 2nd, 4) RG 9th place drive, 5) the cluster in King's veto on the last lap.

 

I usually go the Wednesday the week of the big race and stay until Sunday. I will make another KOH thread next year. We'll probably be camped in the exact same spot.

 

Ya... But did you camp in the desert and drink eight 18 packs of beer tho?
And live like a homeless person for a week?

Jen was even able to save the life of an actual 4400 racer's 6 month old child.

True story.

 

right on way as far as actually watching the race... it's much better from the comfort of your own home... We posted up at Turkey Claw all day Saturday so that was cool to see those guys blasting through.

 

oh shit! what happened ?

 

We were waiting at the podium for her husband to come in. (didn't catch his name, and he was going to be in pretty late. Probably about 30 minutes after Bailey's car came in).

Jen was talking with them and just hanging out. The baby was in a stroller with a bunch of pretzels. The baby started to choke and the mother froze. Jen was able to get the baby out of the stroller and get arms up, and clear the passage. (Jen has been a mom for 30 years now, so it's just plain reflex for her)

 

The mom really was shook up, crying. She was really at the wits end. She had been out there taking care of their 2 year old and 6 month old for 10 days.

She kind of broke down a little.... But, true to her form, Jen helped save Momma too, with re-assurance and joking to make her smile. (Any one who knows my wife will tell ya they know what I mean by that.)

 

Wow, that's super scary! Glad she was there and was able to jump into action...

Well fucking done!

 

My wife is such a badass... I have no idea why I got so lucky.

 

But that's the thing about Hammers.

Tell me what other, high level Motorsport can we just walk up and start talking to the wife of a racer?
Tell me what other high level Motorsport can we walk through the pits, touch the race cars? Talk to the drivers?

Hammertown is a special place for sure. I hope it never changes.

I'll start another KOH thread in January, if any first timers want to go with people who've been before just speak up. You can always watch the live stream on Monday while you clean the sand out of your truck.

 

Wish I could like more than once.

 

Lol the one time I’m watching the live feed with my 3 year old and have the volume turned up is when that happened. She cared more about the vehicles though and didn’t pay any attention

Camped out at Soggy Dry Lake Bed about half an hour of wheeling away from hammer town.

Bumped into a few tacos on the way back to camp, long travel red 2nd Gen with white fiberglass, semi long travel silver 1st Gen, and a nice 2nd Gen 4runner

 

Would love to meet up with you guys year. My group is already talking about plans for next year haha
