    Sounds like cast iron. I suppose if maybe the rock was cooled and maybe reheated in a cyclic fashion nit might do that? That would lock the stress in.

    What kind of geology do you do? I'd assume West Tx oilfield but unless you're out of Midland, seems like the office geologists want to stay as far away from living in West Tx as possible! :D

    I was looking for a different picture and stumbled across it on an environmental website, I think it was called EcoWatch. The accompanying article basically griped that the oil fields add all manner of pollution to the area and used this picture to illustrate how many flares are burning and all the natural gas we're burning off to extract oil. :D and so I stole the picture and discuss its awesomeness.
