There seems to be a distinct lack of actual answers in this thread , more like misdirection and avoidance , and I think that pushes it dangerously close to political in nature

Perhaps a ban is in order

A few years ago the EPA was testing in El Dorado Hills (up Highway 50 in the Sierra Foothills) for asbestos because they were bulldozing the heck out of the place to build McMansions during the housing boom. Well, there's a ton of serpentinite up there. Pictures of hazmat suited and masked EPA folks riding bikes through kid's parks made the front page. Lots of hysteria ensued.

Samples from Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais:

I'll take this one Keith, I think a good piece of limestone, does some pretty good damage and if thrown hard enough it will break into pieces to reduce evidence.

Should aerodynamics be taken into consideration?

I'll take this one too. It depends on the distance you are throwing said rock. Anything of less than 15 feet, there will not be enough resistance to affect the trajectory of the rock (unless you throw like a girl then you may want to consider an aerodynamic rock on anything over 6 inches).

The stuff in my pic is from Tam, not from El Dorado Hills where the had the freak out, which is ~100 mi. east and obviously completely different formations. Yet still I don't think it was the fuzzy mesothelioma-icious stuff you show here. That is the hairiest rock I have ever seen. It's Chewrocka.

So were you in school out here, and when?

I'd suggest asking a geophysicist but as far as I can tell they don't actually speak to humans.
