I say an earthquake in OK is unusual enough to warrant significant Facebook attention. Snow is not, in most places. Snow in Hawaii, for example, might be notable though.

I think OK and TX teamed up to kill me once, in a 16 ft aluminum semi-V on Lake Texoma. But I prevailed. :D

Anyone have their PG certification? Worth it or no?

I think there's a good chance I will die in a fall... off a cliff... rock hammer in one hand, freshly collected sample in the other... happy because I got that crystal they told me I couldn't reach.

I'm working on a well near Mandaree, about 60 miles north of Dickinson. We should be done with this well in a day or two or three. Thought we'd be done today actually, but it never works how it's *supposed* to.

    .
Low amplitude? Is that like really long waves?
That's a mean looking volcano, big sucker. I went to Seattle recently and checked out Mt. St. Helens. Seeing what that eruption did was amazing and the guy to whom Johnston Ridge is named after, he was directly across the valley from the eruption, he got a front seat to that blast, imagine what he saw right before he died, the biggest landslide in recorded history, a full-on pyroclastic blast coming right at him, he got to see the end of the world

Had a field trip that went through Meers for my Igneous Petrology class (since that area has the only igneous rocks in Oklahoma). We had groups and we were each assigned some aspect of the field trip. Most obviously researched the various geology we would see. But a friend and I were in charge of logistics for the trip including planning meal stops (and I'll admit we planned the field trip over a 12-pack of beer). At the suggestion of a professor we went to the Meers Restaurant for dinner. I believe he made this suggestion more on the fact that they have a seismograph in the lobby than on the food, but the food was alright. He told us to definitely try the Meers beers... wink wink, of course we would never drink alcohol on a school trip!

So, being good geology students, nearly everyone ordered 2 Meers beers and some people ordered a Coors Light or similar in addition. And then when the beer arrived we found out the truth: Meers Beers are 22 oz. So... we all had 44 oz or more of beer. It was an AWESOME ride home. Best field trip I had in all college.

It's hilarious to me how many useless laws are in place to keep environmentalists happy.

One of the wells we have right now is on a section directly adjacent to federal grassland. They aren't allowed to drill on the grassland, so they're drilling about 1/4 mile to the south of the grassland and drilling northward under it. :eyeroll:

I will be heading to my most favorite place on earth - Yellowstone National Park - on Friday and Saturday. Such a beautiful and fascinating place! My proximity to the park is the main reason why I live where I live.
A few shots from my opening day trip last year (I think I'll have less snow to deal with this year)
The boardwalks are a little more treacherous this time of year
    [IMG]
But the traffic is light (notice that even the animals obey the traffic laws...better than humans do sometimes ;) )
And everything looks brighter and crisper in the snow

    Did I mention the snow?!?!?
